I once met him at a host's home some years ago when he was touring the US as accompanist. I was surprised to find him singing. He sang a delectable shankaraAbharaNam with shrIdakshiNamUrtE followed by shrIvEnkatagirIshamAlOkayE (surutti). I still remember his rather good taste in his alapana. He had some quaint mannerisms but nothing to detract from his refined sense of music. I did not know that he gave vocal concerts but I am learning that quite a few of the artists we know as accompanists are also good singers, which is not surprising given the primacy CM gives to vocal music.
