What is the mudra called

Post by laya2 »

Hi,

We know of Kangulah mudra where the ring finger is closed.

what is the mudra called when the ring and the little fingers are closed. We use the mudra to denote quite a lot of things but I am not able to get the name of the mudra. Hope I am able to convey properly.

Pls. let me know the mudra name.

thanks.

That is right. It is a variation in katakam. In fact, katakamukha has 3 variations.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. I am not asking about Katakamukha. In this variation we bend the index finger and middle finger and keep it on the thumb, this is one variation of katakamukha.

My question is different. I am sorry, I think i did not explain properly.

My question is in Kangula we fold the ring finger, but if we fold the ring finger and little finger and keep all the other three fingers opened what is that Mudra called. I hope i am able to convey properly now.

I have been taught that hasta to be called "baana hasta" (it is not included in the single handed gestures shlokas). The most common usages include jewel or bells.

according to this link and this link, baana hasta, which is one of those not mentioned in NS and AD looks like this: http://www.webindia123.com/dances/abhin ... myukta.htm
and this: http://www.canstockphoto.com/images-photos/bana.html
But i understand the one u are asking for is as rightly said by anita used to indicate jewels and even anger. I always thought it was a variation of the third type of katakamukha with fingers slightly apart from the thumb
i guess this is what you are talking about from 0.49:1.00

the three variations in katakamukha. I believe ur description fits when the fingers dont join in the third version. Is that right?

Are you referring to Ardha pataka mudra? Thats what we get if fold both ring and little finger inwards and thumb is bent like in pataka?

Bana , Vyagara and Ardhasoochi are additional single handed gestures not usually included in the asamyutha hastas
I am not sure this is Bana..
Bana is used to show "arrow" as the name suggests, the eyes etc.

This one laya is talking about is closer to kangulam... and I have heard it being referred to as kangula bedha.
Though it looks like the disjoint variant of katakamukha
