M N Kandaswamy Memorial Preponed: TODAY 28/4/10

Post by Nick H »

Wedneday 28 April 2010

This concert by Manakkal Rangarajan has been on the Naada Inmbam April 2010 as taking place on 30 April.

It is advertised in The Hindu for TODAY.

We telephoned Raga Sudha, and they confirmed that it has been preponed to today.

I hope that one of the rasikas present will post the song list and some words about this concert.

From my usual, uninformed point of view, I can say that it was an excellent concert. It is just amazing how youthful some of our older performers can be on stage, and Manakkal Rangarajan was a good example.

The only more-informed comment that I can add was that Manakkal Sriram's tani was made up of compositions that would have been played by MNK. Thinking that I recognised the style and content, and was pleased to have this confirmed by Sriram at the end of the concert.

Nick,

You have truly become an 'Indian' - I did not find that word in the OED or Webster's. It seems to be a peculiar usage in India...

I always wondered about that word, very often used by office going Indians in India

As all you guys know, the word is in common usage in Indian English. I don't think it has any merit, as, as far as I know, it is not possible to pone something. I don't object to it, though, as I do to such horrors as upgradation, because it has a certain charm and logic.

Here, I just passed it on: it is what the Raga Sudha people told my wife --- and I needed a short, clear thread title! :)
