srkris
few friends called me that the site is not working after login, I had to tell them to clear cookies , but unfortunately once when login failed they dont click and see this page. They are lost and as the site login is not working they just abandon browsing this important post. So put a small prominent link in the main page saying "If you are unable to login , please see details " in the header as a temporary link, and point them to this post #148 and #149. That way they know this clearing cookies is known to them and they do it without fail.

Re: Data Migration Concerns
After many tries I got to see rajesh's post 148/9 -- clearing the cache and cookies works for ONE time re-login and entry into the forum. An hour later, I tried to re-enter rasikas (it is on my toolbar menu) - it reverted to the old login page again - so AGAIN cleared the cache and cookies and re-entered username-pswd --- what is going on, srkris ? - please delegate some responsibility to other qualified persons and offer optional email facilities OTHER than [email protected] which DOES NOT get answered!

Re: Data Migration Concerns
It is always easy to say "clear cookies" when a website gives problems, as if this was a trivial thing. It isn't: it involves loosing stuff from other sites as well --- it is best done selectively!
I was finding that the site was not keeping me logged in, but I was able to log in, and, after this happening a few times, all seems well now.

Nick, your issue was different. For a while, the site would not let people login. After entering the credentials, it would send them back to the same page asking for credentials. Clearing the cookies solved that problem.

After 3 days of constant tries, I was able to login in today from a public computer after I received a new activation with a new password. I hope this works in home computer too.

VK Raman: You can go back to your old password by accessing the User Control Panel at the top of the screen and reentening the proper information. Make sure you have made note of your temporary password (it is case sensitive) as you have to enter it.

Thanks, all, for the advice on cookie-clearing. I couldn't log on for the last few days as well but do wish that these instructions were placed more prominently (and that admin would reply to e-mails).

I'm glad to be able to log in now. Firefox provides the ability to clear just the cookies for a certain website, which is a very nice feature. None of the other major browsers let you do that.
Bilahari, Admin responded to my email in record time though......although not with a solution that worked.

Re: Data Migration Concerns
I just had a problem with loging in. It accepted my login. told me I was logged in, but would not allow me to do anything.
Remembering recent posts in this thread (and being a Firefox user) I deleted my rasikas.org cookies and subsequently logged in without a problem.
Mahavishnu, I thought one could selectively delete cookies in any browser, but, after reading your comment, I took a look at IE7, the only other one I have installed, and indeed could not see a way to do it. Another reason to use Firefox! To repeat: clearing all cookies can result in other sites you use not functioning as one would wish.

Sorry guys, I did some changes to solve Rajeshnat's fixed IPs login timeout issue. Should I revert back to the old position if it is becoming too hard?

It fine for me now. A couple of hours since my last visit (I think), and the auto-login worked perfectly, taking me direct to my "Unread Posts" link.

Not fine at all - each session requires a login - auto-login feature does NOT work (firefox).

Have you reverted the timeout fix during today Mar 17. For the last few days session was persisted in both my work and home. Right now in work the session is not persisted , every time when I hit reply other than the first tab in my browser the session is not persisted, it again comes back with another login prompt and I lose the thread whereI typed that post. Very frustrating.
I think you should keep the fix and clearly instruct all of us to clear the cache once in a more prominent place with a link .
I personally feel with respect to auto logon issue you can take more time to fix it (for me it worked in the last few days like nick , i didnot have problems like what shyamapriya stated in the previous post ) as such it is not a big deal to manually login again as long as the session is persisted across all tabs feature always work for all users all the time.

Rajeshnat,
Yes I reverted the timeout fix because it is clear that it caused more problems than answers. So until things stabilize, I am not going to make any new changes. We have to allow things to reach a comfort zone.

Third repeat - auto login does NOT work - I am required to login each session on Firefox.

Things will stabilize only when issues are fixed , as such I am sure there are many who face session non persistence just like me, though they have not stated . As such the fix before and after revert in home always works no issues there(though for after I had to clear the cookies).
I still believe if you had communicated clearly more in the header that you have to clear cookies will resolve all the issues(As such I am talking about problems like users who tried to login but still could not login, since that was burried deep down in this thread there were not enough eyeballs looking at this suggestion of clearing cookies).
Looks as of now with your revert , in work I can only read and not write , because the moment I hit reply it takes me to login box and I had to ;( . No worries but don't put this issue behind back burner
For your information we all were unanimously in extreme comfort zone before Feb 2010 when everything worked great without no hiccups ever in the previous forum_flux. This is a statement of fact.

Oddly, I had a similar problem, with firefox, yesterday!
In the end, I found that some stuff that I had changed had changed my settings and my FF browser was no longer accepting cookies. Probably coincidence.

Administrator,
The problems, i addressed earlier have been sorted, except that the "new posts" hyperlink for me returns the new post (posted by me if any ). and not all the new posts posted since my last login. Please can this be sorted for me?
Thanks

Just for the record (I'm not worried if it happens occasionally) the site just forgot my login and I had to log in again. The login worked immediately though.

Google is still not indexing any of the content in this site, it was hapenning before in the previous flux avatar site , I asked you long time back, you said you have raised with google , but after a long time even now it is not working. Can you give the status of that ?. In any case keep a tab of all issues that we raise and give status and DONOT HIDE IT UNDER CARPET .

srkris,
For your information when this site was rolled initially with lot of bugs some time in feb 2010, I raised the issue of google not indexing ,you said it is just easy we can do it . As such google indexing is key, we all contribute and we want it to be indexed. Let us get google indexing and timely response.

Please try to make a test post with a long subject line (80 characters) so we can make sure we are talking about the same thing.
To demonstrate this, I have set the title to a sequence of repeating digits like "1234567890...". Look for the blue title just above this and on a couple of previous posts on this thread. Can you see it shows only 64 characters? Including the "Re: "

If the title is limited to 64 characters, can the title entry be similarly restricted, if not already?
