Given the extension of mobile phones and smart phones these days, is there an acceptable level of usage of a cell phone at concerts these days? While constant texting and taking calls would seem like as an obvious No, what about things like tweeting or live blogging, which are far less intrusive.

Any thoughts?

Surprisingly (I'm not known for being easy-going on concert audiences ;)) --- I do not object to anything that is silent. SMS messaging without keyboard beeps, I don't mind, and do myself occasionally. The other day I shared some reflections on the concert with a fellow rasika elsewhere in the hall.

Use of the phone as a "notepad" to share a message to one's comapnion, if pen and paper is not handy, can be useful too. I'd rather that then they try to talk in my ear, which I will never hear unless they do it loud enough to disturb others.

Phones should, must be in silent mode, and letting it ring whilst running out of the hall to answer it is not acceptable. No more is checking who is calling before cutting the call.

I don't mind if a person's attention is not on the music: it is their loss, no skin off my nose, as the saying is. I do mind if they distract me and others. Again, so long as it silent, I would rather have an inattentive child playing an electronic game than being disruptive.

I'd love to see cameras and photography banned especially press photographers, who may have little interest, but believe that their job is a complete licence to disturb at will. Phones are ok... except for their tradition use of ringing and conversation!
