All
I have done fairly detailed analysis of 2008-2009 vs 2009-2010 slots of music academy . The objective is

1. To speak out where in to illustrate how few musicians who in my opinion deserve a prime slot (in evening I and II slot,) but not got it

2. How few musicians who were in evening slot last year , but not in this year and also few who are promoted from noon to afternoon slots and also from afternoon to prime evening I and II slots.

3. Also how few musicians are totally blacked out this year in academy. Also the writeup is only based on academy , this is kind of applied for other sabhas too.

4. When you download from either of the links , you will find a zip file(small file 292KB only), unzip it, read the file Sabha-Slots-2008vs2009-Rasikas-Perspective.pdf which is my write up. Also you will find two folders namely musicacademy-2008-2009-schedules and musicacademy-2009-2010-schedules, where you will find two html files. These are public html files for you to reference the slots of this year and last year.

Download links are in 1 mediafire, 2 rapidshare and one sendspace(take any one of them, since I am a free user downloads are limited, I am putting in more than one place)

Ive been listening to young V.Pradeep Kumar on sangeethapriya recently and i think he is very good. Deserves an evening slot of not a night slot :)
You say "Abhishek raghuram - I would rate him on par with Sikkil Gurucharan, Kunnakudy
BMK, and Saketharaman, and as such, am surprised he is omitted while the others are
included this year. The omission, as far as I can tell, can only be accounted for by
prejudice." ????
I would put it down to the gimmicks in his music. Master BMK is definitely more solid :)

At the end of the day we are all going to have out own takes on each artist....so will sabahs and they will offer concert opportunities accordingly :)

How come you havent mentioned "Carnatica Brothers" in this?
I was looking through their schedule and they had some morning/afternoon/and evening slots as well...i wasnt sure what that was all about :P

Edit: Also Gayathri Venkatraghavan who has been promoted to the senior slot.

Rajesh...very good analysis. I am not sure as to why you have given all those disclaimers, for after all, these are your valued opinions and you are entitled to it.

I would have loved to see Lalgudi duo given a chance as well as that would have provided a healthy comparision of styles between the Mysore and Lalgudi bani. Both are extremely capable as well as likeable.

Look forward to reading more and more of your reviews. Please keep them coming. Thank you.

It seems that the MA has only a few slots for violin concerts and this seems to get shared every year between various artistes such as Lalgudi Krishnan & Viji, TNK & children, MSD & Narmada, Ganesh/Kumaresh, Mysore Bros, Lalgudi Shrimathi & Anuradha, Lalitha & Nandini, Kanyakumari & Kannan, M Chandrasekhar & Bharati

Rajesh,

I support Sikil G and Kunnakudi BMK for senior slot and others I havenot heard much.
So when we do this Prassanna Venkatraman and Sandeep Narayan can come to subsenior to fill the
voids created .

Anyway your effort looks ultra sincere and I support you.

I am not a regular visitor to Chennai seasons with more concerts happeneing in Blore.
But I find one issue with your writeup. You mentioned that Sikkil G is promoted to prime slot (4 or 7pm, in page 1).

Abhishek Raghuram did not sing as per the list printed in the Music Academy souvenir. As soon as the programme was over, I was telling my wife, he will not appear in the next year list. I was proved right.

A very good write-up and fair enough observations! Though I dont agree that you mentioned that KBMK could have gotten a better spot because he is PSN's student! If thats the case, then Abhishek would have also been in the same slot....
KBMK's music is filled with purity and bhava and traditionalism. And his 'pallavi' and 'kanakku' skills are way beyond his age!

Rajesh, are you sending this analysis to the MA too? You have done a pretty thorough, fair analysis.

I scratch my head and wonder what can it all mean: one of my very favourite senior artists sings at 9.00am.

Nick, I don't know who you are referring to, but personally I prefer concerts held in the mornings.
Voices are at their best in the morning, plus there is an auspiciousness about the time.

Of course, doesn't help if you have to go to work and will have to give it the miss.

so far i have not passed this to anyone , if any of the rasikas are close to any secerataries that too some big sabhas like academy, skgs and NGS i would prefer them to pass either the soft copy or hard copy it only if they are convinced . As such I only have a smiling relationship with few sabha seceretaries because of my regular concert going habit.

I only focussed on the afternoon and the two evening I and II slots. Also all those musicians who are respectively staying in the same slot for last 2 years I have not made any comment . It is more centered on the boot out lists and the promotion lists that I was passing my opinion.
