Vazhi maraithirukudhe - alternate ragas

Is there a version of this song in Bhairavi? For some reason, my mind has been trying to sing this in Bhairavi in the same tune as Upacharamulanu but I'm able to sing only the words 'Vazhi maraithirukudhe' in that tune, the rest doesn't follow. Just wanted to see if my mind is playing tricks with me or if there really is a version of it in Bhairavi.

GKB may have tuned it in toDi, but the prevalent tune (in todi) is Papanasam sivan's tune, which is a total ripoff from koluvamaregadA, with some some 'Sankara-s' thrown in to fit it into the mrelodic pattern.cmlover wrote:Rajesh is quite right. Despite its prevalence, I heard the nATTaikurinji version for the first time in Sri Sanjay's album titled 'tillai' and I must say that I fell in love with that!! I usually am pretty stuck with liking the first version I hear (for instance, I much prefer the bhairavi version of AK's yArO ivar yArO over the version in sAvEri, the bhAgESri version of kaNDEn kaNDEn kaNDEn sItaiyai over the vasantA version etc...), but in this case, I really liked the second version (nk) over the first (in tODi).

You maybe forgetting that PS tuned it for the movies. If you carefully listen MMD throws in some bhairavi phrases in his dramatization. That is what attracts me to a bhairavi version which I am pining to hear! The rasa has morphed in to "adbhutha for the first phrase followed by earnest request/plaintiveness", not probably what shripathi_g was humming along.
To match up the melody with lyrics use the following. The parenthesis align with the natural pauses in the melody:

The starting melody will remind of you of a couple of other famous songs, so work on deprogramming it to fit these lyrics.

Nice idea to start with he anupallavi which is exactly what MMD does.
You look quite confused at the interface of the charanam. Too many ideas clashing in. That is one problem in improvisation. I like the bhairavization of this lyric which could become a masterpiece if rendered with neravel and svaram by an expert...

Thanks very much CML. I was quite happy with the nadai change for the charanam, it just came to me and I did not let go!!.
You are right, I had some trouble with the line "ninru uTrup-pArkka saTrE vilagAdO mADu" especially "saTrE vilagAdO mADu" which bridges back to the pallavi. I made it more a free form rhythm ( like viruththam ) with the thought that it may work since it is a drama!!!
This was a good learning experience for me regarding matching the meaning of the words to the bhairavi phrases. For example, the word 'uTrup-pArkka' fit in nicely with a jump based phrase 'N2 G2 R2 S'. That jump from N2 to G2 provides the emphasis needed for 'uTrup' which is quite meaningful in that context and then 'pArkka' has to be more plaintive which 'R2 S' provides.
