I learnt from Sri N. Vasudev, Mridangam vidwan That our well known vocalist Sri S.Shankar is At Detroit, U.S.A in his daughter's house. He is likely to stay there for couple of months. Interested American Rasikas can contact him for his concerts . His E-Mail id is as given below.

I heard this from BengaLuru too.
Many on the forum have heard his Chennai RasikAs concert. A vidvAn worth listening to. Hope he gets to sing a few concerts here before he returns to India.

Yes! Sri. Shankar is here in Detroit area! I am working on organizing some concerts.

Nov 7th is confirmed for a mini-concert at Pampa Kannada koota Deepavali + Rajyotsava day celebrations (www.pampakannadakoota.org)

Oct 24th will be a house concert in a suburb of Detroit - details to be published soon.

I understand he is performing in Pittsburgh temple on Oct 17th.

San Antonio will feature a concert in early December.

Very nice of you to organize concerts for bangalore S Shankar. There is intense classicism in his music and he is very well versed in kannada, thamizh, sanskrit and telugu compositions, has a knack of picking very rare numbers and he has tuned few of them too. With the risk of repetition , I consider him as say in the concert and age bracket between say neyveli and OST, but however quite unrecognized.

What is pampa in pampa kannada koota mean(i know kannada koota for sure??)???
BTW is his son ramani also accompanying him??

Rajeshnat,
Yes, it is unfortunate that Sri. Shankar is not as widely recognized as he deserves to be.

Pampa was a great poet of kannaDA (10th century) and is considered an Adi kavi. Pampa's fascinating interpretation of mahABhArata portrays karNa and duryOdhana in a different frame than what we are used to in the vEda vYasa's version. Pampa glorifies karNa's loyalty to duryOdhana, and duryOdhana's valour (kecchu in kannaDa).

Regarding Sri. Shankar's son Ramani, I believe he is not visiting U.S.A. now. He is based on Bangalore.

Nice to hear about Shankar going places. He has a website for rasikas: http://www.sshankar.com/ which includes a calendar which (hopefully) will be updated.
