There is a beautiful Krithi "Sangeetha Samrajya Sancharine.." by (late) Sri Ramamoorthi Rao. There are two wersions, one in Mohanam popularised by Smt. Aruna Sairam and the other in Mohana Kalyani. Since I heard the latter version rendered by students of Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman and keeping in mind the special liking of that raga by Lalgudi family starting with "Thamadam Thagadayya" by (late) sri Gopala Iyer to the present thillanamore ,, I presume that the original composition in mohana has been modified by Sri Jayaraman.. Both the versions are equally enjoyable and I in my ninetieth orbit round sun in space ship earthand consequently afflicted with all trials and tribulations of old age such as nadaiyum thalara, deham odunga, naavadu kuzaro, kangal manga, immortalised by (late) Sri Papanasam Sivam usually ," sing" in the bathroommore to serve as a safety latch as Ido not use the mechanical latch for fear of being locked in the bathroom and cause mental ,emotional and financial problems to the house owner, although I sometimes get mixed up and find it difficult to come out. Is my presumption correct? The question is purely academical and is the result of hours of looking at the ceiling and scratching my chin when I am alone in the house from 8..00 A.M when my children and their spouses go to work and till they return late in the evening. May Sri Rama bless you all

Maharajapuram used to sing this song quite frequently (particularly concerts of his in Karnataka)
in Mohana Kalyani, with a crisp and interesting chitta swaram

I presume that you were reffering to Sri Santhanam ,when you identified the artist as Maharajapuram, and I also presume he rendered it in Mohana kalyani, by your ref. to chittaswaram. Both the versions are equally good and easily be part of any bathroom singer's repertoire. But my (academic) interest is confined to the following:
1.In what Raga did Sri Rao compose this song?
2.Who changed the raga later on? Evidently the change was not due to any accidental straying into the other raga as a whole charanam in the sahityam has been changed
3.For Mohanam, it is as follows:
gAndhAra pancama daivata varshini neemA rahita lAvanya rUpini
mandAra kusuma maNimaya bhUshaNi mAdhrya mohana rAga swrUpini

4.For Mohana Kalyani, it is as follows;
gAndhara pancama dhaivatha rUpini nishAdha madhyama sapthaswarupini
mandAra kusuma maNimaya tEjo mAdhrya moh ana Kalyani swarUpini

I reiterate that both the versions are equally good and my query is due t idle mind being devils workshop

Hi Veeyens,

If you go to the following site

http://indianmusicfreak.blogspot.com/20 ... etham.html

and scroll down, there is a link to a beautiful rendering of Sangita Samrajya by Maharajapuram Santhanam in Mohanakalyani. The kriti is preceded by a great alapana. Enjoy.

From the lack of comments on my posting ,except for one, which too did not answer my query, I am led to believe that all the 1000+ rasikas.org members , who represent C.M lovers throughout the world, consider the subject too trivial and elementary, not worthy of spending time and energy. Remember the saying "a person is as great as the smallest thing which upsets him"

I am afraid there has been some misunderstandig. My query was purely academic and there is absolutely no reason for me to get upset in the absence of any clarifications for my doubts. At my age, nothing upsets me. May Sri Rama bless you all

When I googled , I found out that the mOhana rAga krithi is by Shri rRamamoorthi Rao and the MK rAga krithi is by Bangalore Ramanathan with chittaiswaram by Shri Lagudi Jayaraman.

There is still doubt. The talented housewiife in Thane, informed me that she learnt this song from Sri Ramamooorthy Rao himself in Mohana Kalyani back in 1980s. But the Mohanam version was heard by me in mid 2000s. Irrespective of the chronological details let us enjoy both the versions thanking Sri Rama for his blessings
