Can we have a collection of blogs by carnatic artists?
I know
http://sanjaysub.blogspot.com/
http://gayathrigirish.blogspot.com/

How many maintain a moderately active blog?

Nick,
Yes, an artistic artiste.
When the eggs hatch, we would find out if they are Chennai city crows or suburban crows, with your help. I still can't forget your impersonating both kinds with the differences in their cawing!

you can find (very) occasional articles at www.tmkrishna.com so I am not sure it qualifies as a blog but schedules are updated with reasonable frequency

Ranjani and Gayatri have a blog at http://ranjanigayatri.blogspot.com where they had been posting impressions of their US tour concerts, but it seems to have stopped with the Shruti Laya concert weekend .. maybe they'll fill the rest in after their return ..

Thanks Rao for the link. Yes quite scholarly and analytical.

Her latest blog article talks about Soundarya Lahari 69th sloka which is quite relevant musicologically.

"Gale Rekhaasthishro gathi-gamaka geethaika nipune
Vivaaha-vyaanaddha pragunaguna sankhyaa prathibhuvaha
Viraajanthe naanaavidha madhura raaga karabhuvaam
Thrayaanaam graamaanaam sthithi niyama seemaana iva the."

Literal meaning-"O Mistress of the musical modes, modulations and songs! The three lines on Thy neck indicating the number of strings in the auspicious cord
fastened at the time of Thy wedding, shine like boundaries demarcating the three musical scales_or graamaas consisting of sadja, madhyama, and
gandhaara)which form the source of the various melodies of musical notes."

When was Soundarya Lahari composed? Is there a consensus on the authorship and timeframe?

Authorship is undisputed (at least for the first part) - Sri Adi Sankara

The soundarya lahiri actually consists of two parts viz. the ananda lahiri and the soundarya lahiri (the two are jointly referred to as the soundarya lahiri). It is believed that the 100 verses were originally composed by vinayaka. When Adi shankara goes to kailasha (via the sookshma sharira/subtle "body"), he gets to read only the first 41 verses. The rest are taken away by ganesha, who fears that the secrets of kailasha might reach the earth. These 41 verses are collectively called the ananda lahiri. Shankara then (through the grace of parvati) composes the rest (59 shlokas). The soundarya lahiri as we know it today is thus an amalgam of the ananda lahiri and the soundarya lahiri.

Indeed, Veena Gayatri is "bhUmikku vandha saraswathi" which means Saraswathi having descended on earth in the form of Veena Gayathri. This was written in "Dina Mani" once.
That is why I have included her as one of the judges in my series. =)
