Songs which I'm able to remember immediately are Hariharaputhram (Vasantha) and Saranam Ayyappa (Mukhari) of Papanasam Sivan.

Dear rshankar:
Just a clarification - I believe the song "SaraNam ayyappA" is in mukhAri and not bhairavI.

Of course the first one by MS is Mukhari and is by P Sivan and not by Tulasivanam,
The second one in vasanta is by MD!

Thanks guys! I had corrected the rAgam in the aiff version of the MS song, but it remained as BairavI in the mp3 version which I posted here! Sorry for that. CML, I think you are correct about P.Sivan being the composer of sharaNam ayyappA, because as far as I know, Tulasivanam only composes in sanskrit...but I do not see this in the Sivan list I have.
I must have been totally off when I posted the one by DKP. SORRY!
To atone, here is a genuine Ayyappa Bhajan:
http://rapidshare.de/files/8396089/08_s ... i.m4a.html
CML: is that a harmonium in the background?
I am a big fan of OST, and find OSA a bit affected in this rendition.

You read my mind! As soon as I saw MS's hariharaputram I thought of MDR and naturally I thought about you. You posted it right away. I do believe in tele-cognition though it is taboo in classical psychiatry!

sorry I don't have any of tulasivanam!

Shankar! that is clearly a harmonium as also a jalra in the background. It must be from a bhajan and the raga sounds like hamsadhvani.

Seems like I have missed a lot of discussions.

Ravi:

There is a Thulaseevanam composition on Ayyappa - Shyam Kalebharam, tuned in HIndolam - Prabhakara Verma sings that. If I have it, I shalll u/l it.

There is also GNB's mamakulEswaram in Thodi - probably GNB's most majestic composition in the Dikshitar style. It apparently contains the ten types of gamakam.

A rendition by Sudha Ragunathan (from a Music Academy concert) at http://sangeethamshare.org/tvg/SEASON_2 ... ghunathan/

I happened to attend a "Sastha Preeti" function in Coimbatore on my way to Sabarimala in July. The function started as usual with poojas and aradhanas (sahasra nama archana , bhajans etc.,). Then came an experience of life time for me.

Five traditional upasakas representing Sri Sastha and his parivara devatas were seated near the idol. An elderly person (close to 80) began to sing a set of songs known as "Sastha Varavu paattu" (songs welcoming Sri.Sastha). There were no accompaniments except for vocal support by another person. The songs were in simple Tamil with very moving lyrics and sung as viruthams with atmost bhavam. I have never heard such singing full of lyrical, musical majesty and bhakthi . The entire hall with around 500 people was in pin drop silence.

After about 45 minutes of soulful singing, suddenly the 5 upasakas seated got up and started dancing Sri Satha and his parivara devatas got invoked on them. They were offered traditional upacharas and were worshiped as the Lord and they blessed the devotees.

It was a stunning experience for me to see them suddenly spring up dancing, inspired by The Lord. The songs continued till prasadam were distributed and the 5 came back to normalcy.

I understand that these songs are not sung in regular bhajans and are reserved for special occasions. I don't think a recording of these songs is available.

I could not get much details about this except for a post inviting devotees to the function with some basic details

http://www.kamakotimandali.com/blog/ind ... &tb=1&pb=1

Can some one provide more details.

The invitation in Tamil details the function
