Greetings are flying around my inbox regarding the friendship day. I think it is today, Aug 2nd. We all have become friends here, sharing and debating matters related to music and related topics. Not that we need a separate day to remember this, but since someone has established it, let us use it reflect about all our friends and what they mean to us.

That got me to think about CM compositions with friendship as a main theme. Please post the compositions that you can think of and links to them if any.

Nothing to top this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WdMrNt4 ... r_embedded

kAncI kAmakOTi pITha - sri candraSEkhara saraswatI's prayer for friendship and wishes for prosperity:

maitrIm bhajata, akhila hrit jaitrIm |
Atmavad Eva parAN api pashyata |
yuddham tyajata, spardhAm tyajata |
tyajata parEshu akrama-AkramaNam ||
jananI prithivI kAma-duhArtE |
janako dEvah sakala dayALuh |
'dAmyata, datta, dayadhvam' janatA |
shrEyO bhUyAt sakala janAnAm ||
shrEyO bhUyAt sakala janAnAm ||
shrEyO bhUyAt sakala janAnAm ||

Let us celebrate (bhajata) friendships (maitrIm) that win (jaitrIm) everyone's (akhila) hearts (hrit) |
And look upon (pashyata) others (parAN api) as our own selves (Atmavad Eva) |
Let us give up (tyajata) acts of war (yuddham), competition (spardhAm), |
and countless/disordered (akrama) aggression (AkramaNam) ||
Our mother (jananI), Earth (prithivI) grants (duhArtE) all our wishes (kAma) |
And, God (dEvah), our father (janakO) is ever merciful (sakala dayALu) |
So, let us (janatA - the people) practice self-control (dAmyatA), mercy (dayadhvam), and charity (datta) |
AND, May each and everyone of us (sakala janAnAm) be blessed (bhUyAt) with auspicious prosperity (shrEyas) ||

Shankar
well done! just note that all verbs (bhajata, pashyata etc.,) are all second person plural imperative. In other words AcArya is addressing the prayer to the rest of the world. In other words he is saying 'you guys do this and that..'

Sam - you are welcome!

This is one of the most powerful songs IMO...and another that amazes me is Rajaji's composition in English - 'May the Lord forgive our sins' - the part that gets me every time is:
'The good in all of us is an atom too,
Let us find it and EXPLODE it into lasting peace,
Here under this uniting roof!'

A very nice love song which sings of friendship and understanding in two young people in love. The song moves gently, voicing meaningful sentiments of give and take, being there for each other, and expressing hope about this friendship till the very end of life.
'In the cool comfort of your presence, my ego gets erased', he sings!
If such thoughts on friendship in a relationship inspire the young, it will be a beautiful world indeed!
Thanks ragam_talam. I would not have guessed that a modern love scene would have such finesse about it without all that revved up 'taiyyA takkA'!
