Before we inundate this thread with the countless articles that have appeared on the two eminent musical legends who passed away - the point of my post was that both links were articles that I wrote for the Express, which as always, in the interests of those who do not subscribe to the paper

Thanks for sharing your excellent, scholarly, thoughtful& authoritative articles with us. PL continue to share what you write with persons like me who do not subscribe to Indian newspapers.I feel you have a lot to contribute& communicate on an authentic basis.
I particularly liked the fact that you avoided the "Laver-Federer (Bradman-Tendulkar too)"Syndrome of being tempted to compare artists from different generations; This I have found almost always is distracting & misleading(?) esp. in forums like these where many appear to be familiar with only one generation!.....VKV
