A dance presentation of the famous malayalam poem "Radhya evide"("where is Radha") was presented by Smt. Gopika Varma and her disciples on June 14th 2009 at the Music Academy, Chennai. It was a visual delight and the abhinaya was done beautifully by Mohiniyattom expert Smt Gopika Varma.
Where is Radha..what happens to Radha after Krishna leaves Vrindavan.....she incarnates as Meera of Rajasthan,Andal of Tamil Nadu and Kooruramma of Kerala....
The poetess who created "Radha evide",Padmasree Smt Sugatha Kumari was also present along with music director Shri.M Jayachandran(who composed the music for "Radhya evide"), Actor Shri Bharath Murali and singers like Smt Sujatha Mohan. The chief guest was Mr. Andrew T .Simkin,Counsul General,US Consulate,Chennai.
Awaiting more of such beautiful performances, where there is dance, poetry, music and lovely artists to satisfy every rasika's yearning!

I can believe Gopika Varma may publish clips of herself or her students on youtube, but except for Vipina.
Who will watch Gopika and the other students after watching Vipina?
The best dancer must always remain in the guru's shadow. Kind of royal exploitation.

I totally understand your point, but to my knowledge, the Guru gives good opportunity to all her students to come up..would we know about the best dancer,if the Guru did not give an opportunity?
No one forces us to remain under our Guru(whoever he or she may be)...it is our devotion and love towards them, that makes us remain with them...moreover, we are only gaining from the valuable lessons they impart...it is this training that would make any talented person survive forever..

Regardless of how well they dance, as long as they are paying fees?Sudheesh R.S wrote:the Guru gives good opportunity to all her students to come up
I want to quote Gowri Ramnarayan from http://www.hinduonnet.com/folio/fo9812/98120060.htm:
Since the nattuvanars did not perform on stage, they could focus all their energies on the student. There was no competitiveness, or the fear of the student overtaking the master. With the old guard, there was no package deal for quick consumption. Though he could be extremely stingy and mean at times, the nattuvanar could also share generously with the worthy pupil. His success depended upon hers.
Now it seems the success is defined by the number of students in the school regularly paying the fees.

Anyone who knows my Guru Smt Gopika Varma personally, would also know that she does not need fees from her students to live by. It is her passion and commitment to Mohiniyattom that has made her establish a school in Chennai. I would like to clarify that I am not paying any fees to my Guru. It is not only me but many others who are learning and performing with her without giving any fees.
As a disciple, I have to mention here, that she has only appreciated my talent and not even asked for a ‘dakshina’ in cash. Many students in our class would vouch that she is someone rare, who shares a personal relationship with her students. If I am not with her in any performance, it is only because I have chosen not to, mainly because of personal work coinciding at the same time.
I appreciate that there are people who like my performance, but I am also deeply hurt that the same people can make such comments about my Guru, whom I love and respect a lot.

Naturally we do not see many French or Spanish royalties riding an old TVS scootie or depending on some tuition jobs.vipina r wrote:Anyone who knows my Guru Smt Gopika Varma personally, would also know that she does not need fees from her students to live by.
Naturally in most schools the senior students who teach full time need not pay the fees!vipina r wrote: It is her passion and commitment to Mohiniyattom that has made her establish a school in Chennai. I would like to clarify that I am not paying any fees to my Guru.
Wisely you did not dare to comment on Gowri Ramnarayan's quote.vipina r wrote: If I am not with her in any performance, it is only because I have chosen not to
