Hi Mansi - welcome. Am as new as you, from the US, staying in Chennai for a short while, on work. While I enjoy carnatic music, I have always been a regular at bharatanatyam and kuchipudi performances, with a special leaning towards Chitra Visweswaran's performances. Do give your insights and details of programs. Look forward

Welcome Mansi and Shalu!

Mansi, good luck with renewing your dance passion. Your first baby step goal can be to participate on stage on some dance programs of cultural organizations. A few years back, in our local tamil association, women with similar situation to yours joined hands and legs and put together a group dance program. It was lot of fun to watch!

Namaskar!!! I am new to this forum. Just wanted to say 'Hi' to everybody. I don't know is this correct forum to post this, if it's not, sorry about that.
I am "Bharatnatyam Visharad" and loves dancing. But I didn't get chance to continue with my dance since last 5-6 years. I got married and have kid and now I am considering coming back in the field. Meanwhile I didn't do anything so would like to brush up little. So trying to learn/practice things again. Just didn't have much luck with Tala and composing korvais.
Can somebody help me with that? I am hoping to get back on track and would love to continue with my dream of being on stage again :)
Thank you for reading this.

Hi Everybody, Iam a new entrant to this forum. As a new green card holder i am settling down here recently. I ENJOY the three 'C's ---carnatic music, cricket and cosmology, but not a learned student of these. Am an ardent fan of Madurai mani having been captivated by his majestic swaras five decades ago and having been able to attend his concerts in Bangalore and still having fond memories of some memorable concerts of his during the period 1958-1966. More of it later-----Kapali

born in Kumbakonam and grew up in Bangalore. The CM festival during Ramanavami days at Seshadripuram, Bangalore were fantastic as the atmosphere was really great and all vidwans used to relish singing there!----Kapali

I feel very warm for the welcome, Thanks for naming few mridangists, Now I would like to request members to start some discussion where in performing mridangists can share some of their unique experiences while accompanying, travelling learning and teaching. I am sure there would be a lot of lighter moments to share, we can do this without offending any one. Well I would share a small lighter moment which happened in my first concert mysore.
It was in 1993 when I accompanied my brother who plays solo violin concerts. Because it was my first concert I was not used to sit 2.5hrs continously holding mridangam on my legs, As the organisers called my name to garland me I woke to find that I was not feeling my feet(feet fell asleep)I could not balance myself I fell to the front, luckily it was not a dias it was just a carpet put on the nice flooring which actually made this situation. Although I fell I acted as though I was doing a namaskaram to the lord, hence avoided a lot of shame. I am sure there will be more from other members also.

Hi everyone.
I am an ardent lover of carnatic music, especially the music of old stalwarts like Ariyakkudi, Tiger Varadacharyar etc.
In my younger days I have drank plenty of Kaveri water and in my college days at Banaras, I drank plenty of ganges water too.
I was looking for the lyrics of a ragamalika, a mangalam song starting with "Mohana roopini manjula bhashini makathambike".
It is a very old song.

Hi everyone,
My Namaskarams.
I Too am an ardent lover of Carnatic Music, especially Veena and Instrumental.
I enjoy playing on the Veena , and hopefully will get to play better on it.
This is a immensely good forum with a lot of experienced vidhwans, vidushis , and rasikas!!
Also, there is a wealth of information and precious recordings here, and hope they keep coming.
I am delighted to find it.
Can someone also please point out the Vainikas on this forum please?

Regards,
Vallaki

Dear Vasanthakokilam Sir/Madam ,
Thank you very much.
If you do not mind, can you please tell me why your profile comes with 'Members First'. I am just curious.
Additionally, I thank you for your comments to my other posts.
Respects,

Vani: That was a reaction to the impression people sometimes get that moderators are a different breed. This one says we are all members first. Due to the gender confusion my id creates, I changed it to Mr. Member for a day or so. But that sounded kitschy, so changed it back ;)

Mister Vasanthakokilam on the forum
Is often mistaken for a madam--but
It is the male birds which sing sweetly--
VK took the name of his favorite NCV--
And still has to deal with gender blunder--
I was misled too once, but I now know
That he is a flute blowing scientist who does
More as a moderator than as a member!

Arasi: Thanks for the poem. :) Not to nit pick on a good sentiment expressed, but you give me the excuse to state a technical point about the moderating policy set out by the Admin. 'keep it to a minimum but no less', a minimalistic approach. That is not a universally liked policy but that is how it is here. But then of course my contribution as a member is not much so your statement is still correct ;)

O la la! On the contrary, your contributions are considerable. They have depth and are valuable to the forum. As you know fully well :) the minimalist approach is the most difficult. Kudos to srkris and the moderators for keeping the (sometimes) unruly lot from disrupting the forum. You folks do the parenting (running the forum ) and the rasikas have the freedom of expression--and they have no responsibilities! Reminds me of all the freebie concerts and music on the forum Cool and others bring to us--and we take it all for granted!
I will rephrase what I said. Besides being a contributor, you are also a minimalist-moderator, the way srkris wants it to be...

Dear Carnatic Music Rasikas,

While I've really enjoyed these pages for a while (kudos to its creators)...this is the first time that I have registered in order to do a posting.

I invite this entire community of Carnatic music lovers to a first time story of the legendary Chowdiah and the inspired reasons on how his memorial came about in Bangalore. Rather, the story is more centered in Mysore. Please visit, whenever you can

http://chowdaiahandparvati.blogspot.com/

There is a whole lot of pictures and original music coming soon there, in association with all the Vidwans and some inspiring speeches in Kannada, Tamil and one right now one by Chowdiah himself! (This is all being done as a hobby and to furnish some historical facts related to our classical music heritage).

With best wishes to the members of this forum (who are all so lively)

Hi everyone

This place is so fascinating I had to register. Thanks everyone for the great inputs. Btw, can someone tell me where I can find the recordings of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar's brother are available? I searched sangeethamshare.org, but drew a blank.

Thanks again

Sri Gurubyo Namaha everyone,

I have been actively talking to people on rasikas.irg for a little while and I do not regret my choice of joining this blog. My mum is not very fond of blogs as she fears for my life...which is an adequate fear.
But even she can't believe what wonderful people write and help those who need it on this blog.

I am a fifteen year old going on 16 and am madly in love with carnatic music. Check my Ipod if you want the truth. I classify my songs by ragams and thalam.

Thank you Lord for ever creating a wonderful site like this.

I started dancing when i was 4.
But because of dance, i love music.

I choreographed a couple of keerthanams, gowthwams, thillana and pushpanjalis and did a performance in aid of an orphanage in Sri Lanka.

I hope to be able to post a few videos for people to see pn rasikas.org so i canget feedback.

It is ONLY with my eyes open that the music comes alive for me, so I guess I have not reached your step in the ladder of cosmic understanding!! :) :P
