Some info here http://karnatik.com/co1117.shtml Wikipedia also has an interesting page about this saint/scholar.

I was under the impression that Sri Appayya Dikshitar was more famous for his slokas/sthotrahs then krithis.
My Dad used to sing margabhandu sthotra 'Shambho mahadeva" during any long journey.

Sam, I understand that he is your ancestor too!

The sloka-s srI-rAmacandra srita-pArijAta and amarI-kabarI-bhara of Appaya Dikshita are sung as geetams.. I doubt if he has any vaggeya compositions..

We were also taught to sing margabhandu sthotra 'Shambho mahadeva' during any journey specifically you are alone and that too in the night. I always used to wonder who would have written these kind of poems (sthotra) and its origin. There are plenty like this (e.g) Kalabhairav ashtakam, lingashtakam and so on..... At least one answer I have. Thanks.

Lji, all the compositions you have listed are slOkAs b appayya dIkSitar and they were made into geethams by somebody in the 20th century. Very unlikely appayya dIkSitar tuned it in those rAgas. I agree with keeti that he was a vEdAntin and not a vAggEyakArar.

These are the geeta-s attributed to the savant.. obviously, srI-ramacandra is the only verse..

Everything else looks like a geetam... With some sahityam incongruosities..
