AFAIK, the punnAgavarALi version in vogue for 60-70 years. Others have come in much later...

rAgi tandIra in tillang has been popular with artistes from Mysore and Bangalore schools for a long time.

Hello, I am a new member here, although I have been browsing the site for a while, lapping up all the goodies posted here.

I have a special affinity for MLV, who has done yeoman service in popularizing dasa krithis.

Could someone post "yaadavaraaya brindavanadolu" MLV? Or any other gems that has been treated elaborately by her. I'd appreciate it very much, thanks.

Listening to Doreswamy Iyengar's rendition of "Pogadirelo Ranga". No words to describe it :)

How appropriate Shankarabharana seems to express the sentiment of the song! This is pure bliss :)

Beautiful! Beautiful!

Team - thanks for all those links which give some wonderful music. Coolji, all seem to be making a beeline for your repositories. Any luck with John Higgins' Krishna nee begane baro? Rajam Iyengar's (hope I have been correct)Jagado dharana is again another mind blowing piece.

Ok I checked the meaning for the word, "mahila" and in Sanskrit it means "women" ad thereby "mahila haridAsAs" means female haridAsAs. Prof. Sukanya Prabhakar of Mysore is taking some effort to popularize and document their contributions to CM. bhīmavva's ankiTa is "bhImEShakr.shNa" and I could only find two compositions of hers, one gajamukha gaNapatige and noDE gOpamma. An audio clip audio for the former is available at the following site(first song): http://www.raaga.com/channels/kannada/m ... id=KD00003

There's a book on bhīmavva online, which may contain her compositions and it is available here. Maybe someone who can read kannaDa fluently can go through and post.

An article on bhImavva is available here

Another book on the songs of bhīmavva which is out-of-print: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Harapanahalli-B ... 817713082X.

Another mahila haridAsa that is not so well known is Helevanekatte Giriamma but I wasn't able to find any info on this personality.

This indeed is one of the most informative and meaningful topic - thanks to all the contributors, i have amassed a wealth of music.Real gems i must say, some of them. TRS has done it all. MLV's contributions are as unique as herself...raagi thandi ro is so melliflous. Yamanelli kanenendhu is again another kriti par excellence, rendered so chastely by the great diva. Coolkarni, your collections are simply awesome

I keep getting error message (404) when I try to download these mediafire links.
I wonder if others are having the same issue.

I noticed that some of the links are incomplete (not in blue color all the way to the end). However, even for the ones that seem to have complete link (all in blue color), I still get the same error message.

Sorry for this intrusion but just wanted to make sure if it's an issue only with me.

I just felt like sharing these two songs sung by Smt.Vishaka Hari:

1) 'thambUri mItidava' in Sindhubhairavi

2) 'yAre ranganA' in Hindolam

They are available in TVG's uploads:
http://sangeethamshare.org/tvg/UPLOADS- ... akha_Hari/

'thambUri' is really superb!

Thank you so much. This song I heard from Ms.Sudha Raghunathan long back (live) when I was learning kannada. I got the meaning transalted through one of my Kannadiga friend. I could have bought a CD but somehow it never occured. Thanks a ton.

Manjunath sir,
You are right, Vid. A Subba Rao was known as "dEvaranAmada subba rao" in those days!
No wonder - he had trained under Bidaram Krishnappa!
I had met with and interacted with Sri. A Subba Rao many times. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to listen to his music at all.
Besides being a vocalist of repute, he was a great organizer as well. He was one of the founder members of karnataka ganakala parishat and was one of the backbones of the organization. He had also held some position (secretary, I think) with karnataka sangeeta nritya academy and was instrumental in reviving the annual music and dance conference of the academy in 1979.

Sri. Subba Rao belonged to that select band that had great pride in artistes from karnataka and worked very hard to promote artistes from karnataka. As I had written in another thread, we need to unearth the book he had written about Harmonium Arunachalappa (published by India Book House) and also his music. His son Yashasvi is a violinist and is featured in Bangalore concerts.

Thanks a lot, manjunath ji!
MLV and devarnAmAs are a real good combination! Thank you!
My humble suggestion:
Can you please upload through mediafire? It is easier to download than in Rapidshare. Rapidshare specifies the worst of conditions - No two files at the same time and a long wait of 60 secs!

Sreeni - I was fortunate to listen to his concerts couple of times in Gavipuram during Ramnavami Season. In his concerts, Harmonium Arunachalappa use to accompany him. He used to play so very well as an accompanist to Vocal Music. It was really a treat to hear his Harmonium. I vividly remember A Subba Rao singing "marakoti sundari malini" in Bahudhari. Ofcourse, Tharakka Bindige was his favourite. When RK Srikantan was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by Bangalore University( abt 4 years back), RKS hosted a lunch party in Krishna Temple in Malleswaram. I met A subba Rao in this party and exchanged pleasantries. Yes, he was a founding father for Karnataka Gana Kalaparishat.
Nice old memories to recollect & rejoice.
