Sons of a certain SwaminAtha pillai; Natarajasundaram Pillai and Sivasubrahmanya Pillai started the tradition of nagasvaram rendering as a duet. They were Traditionally from Tiruppamburam; but lived at TiruvIzhimizhalai; and were popular as the TiruvIzhimizhalai brothers, held in great esteem by contemporaries like RamnAd Insect AyyangAr and Sarabha shAstri..
They were particularly famous for their emphasis on TUt-kAram i.e, emphasising sahityam, by unique blowing techniques..
The former, NatarAjasundaram Pillai, had three(I think) sons and a few daughters..
The flautist Tiruppamburam Svaminatha Pillai, was his son. He had an enviable repertoire of Thyagaraja's and the Dikshita's songs with excellent pATantarams.. He was lecturer at the central college of Carnatic music(Now called some thing else) and taught generations of senior musicians, vocalists and instrumentalists, including the doyen Prof.SRJ
Sivasubrahmanya Pillai, another son was a lecturer in Annamalai University. Natarajasundaram Pillai published a volume of Dikshitar krthis entitled DIkshita-krthi-prakAsikai in the preface of which he acknowledges the help of this son..
