Bala,
MMI was known for his humility and his consideration for others. Not like a few other vidvAns who 'demanded' more money. He would have spoken on behalf of the accompanists, feeling sorry that their talents went unrecognized by the sabhas. It hasn't changed that much in all these years, I'm afraid.

MMI was once told his accompanist demanded more money than what they could pay MMI himself. He just said the concert is what counts & asked them to give the accompanist what he wanted & take it out of his renumeration. Having witnessed how MMI WAS MORE PARTICULAR about the success of the concert than what he was paid etc I can BOLDLY assert that MMI certainly lived to please his admirers & went to any length to make sure that happened. A TRUE Gandhian that I was very fortunate to not just hear his divine talent but his GREATNESS as a human being---Indeed a VERY RARE ONE-.......VKV
