hello

you can use songs composed by h h bhakta gnanananda tirtha ( sri ogirala veera raghava sarma garu ) , the saint composer of carnatac music of 20th century . you can down load the songs in telugu / tamil from the site

bhakta gnanananda teertha

ogiralaveeraraghavasarama.com which was devolped by me as a birth centinary tribute to the saint composerwhich is falling this year.

you will get more information on the saint composer in rasikas.org under vaggeyakaras.

o s ramakrishna

I am not sure if a video is available, but Bharathi's "sentamizh nADenum pOdinilE.." is a good song to do with children provided you are doing it in ThamizhnADu or as one of the items in a multilingual program.

The Dhananjayans have choreographed kummi/kOlATTam using their version of sentamizh nADenum...Sowmya has rendered it as a kAvaDi cindu...and Smt. MSS and Sri TMK have rendered it as regular tukkaDAs in concerts.

Meaning of caraNasAhityam:

sundara = pretty
vaLLiyum = vaLLi - kuramagaL, the gypsy girl (and)
surar magaLum = daughter (magaL) of the gods/indra (surar) aka deivayAnnai/dEvasEnA
magizh = (one who) delights
kandanE = murugan
Siva guruparanE = one who became the guru of Siva (when murugan explains the meaning or the essence of praNava to his father - he is called swAminAthan - in swAmimalai)
vandittEn = I pray to
vaDivazhagA = handsome one
mayilil vandu = come (vandu) on your peacock (mayilil)
ippozhudE = right now
ennai = me
ANDaruLE = please protect me and shower your grace on me!

The delighter ot vaLLi and dEvasEnA, the guru of Siva, I pray to thee, Oh Handsome one. Please come to me immediately on your peacock, and shower your blessings on me.

Sathya,

You can search the contents of different dance cassettes/cd's online in the "Natya Melam" section of kanakasabha.com ... but the website does not always work.

Most commercial dance cd's include a varnam (as they generally try to include a margam). If you are in Chennai, try Giri Traders in Mylapore. Indian music stores in the U.S. sometimes carry dance music, but the selection is either very limited or nil. For streaming music, try the "special" section of musicindiaonline.com. They are some padavarnams for Bharata Natyam there.

You can also try http://www.kalakendra.com/shopping/inde ... =2a&page=1
There are 2 CDs with Kshetragnya's padams and 'nardhana krishna' has a couple of pieces that can be used instead of padams.

u can also try adinaye kanna... in mohana kalyani... OS arun has renderes it in one of his bhajans cassettes....that one is good.
if u want to try a group choreography.... the one popularised by aruna sairam.... madu meikum kanne... is also good( courtesy - our member- swaykv)

or if u want something with a north india flavor, u may try...haririha mugdha vadhu.... the ashtapadi.. some modern musicians have set it in a ras-dandiya based tempo....but i am unable to suggest any particular artistes

Go to this link. There are detailed lessons that teach you the varnam itself. Notation and meaning is also available for many varnams.
In this link's page, scroll down and you will find the category "Varnam".
