Rasikas in Mumbai, please note that the concerts at Shanmukhananda from Dec 4-9 have been canceled. I presume its due to the recent terror attack in Mumbai.. They have been rescheduled and would be held from Dec 25.

Just found Finearts Chembur has upgraded their long dormant website. They have announced Feb programes.lalggudi br& sister duo, hyderabad brothers and OS Arun.Wonder why no big names this year. Also Vishaka hari in January for carnatic recital.I thought she was popular for Harikatha and not carnatic music. Can any one comment.

Shri.T.V.Sankaranayan concert at Shanmukhananda was postponed again (which was to be held on 28-12-2008) due to his sudden illness.
Yesterday it was Mandolin U.Shrinivas. It was in the presence of Pujya Sri. Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi.
Superb program. Though it got over at 9.00 PM, it was a wholesome peace.

Further to my post of 18/12 ,in the new notice of Fine arts Vishaka Hari is missing. The reason for the same I heard was her huge demands!! So have to do with the 3 days carnatic music in Feb.

Meanwhile Dr Nityashree is in BARC Chembur on 25th Jan and MR T.V.Shankarnarayanan is on 26th.

My music school in Bangalore called 'Prapancha-The world of music' is celebrating its 24th founding anniversary and Tyagaraja-Purandara dasa aradhana on Feb 15th. so will be in bangalore for a week during that time. will look forward to listening upload of your concert, though! all the very best for the concert.

Prashant,
I bet this concert is going to be as good as the one we heard in Chennai--if not better. Please give us a sample, at least.

shankarabharanam sir,

my daughter is one of the singers in a group of girls who sing bhajans, and they have participated in several namasankeerthanam programmes as well as competitions here in chennai and won prizes. The group consists of 9 children, out of which 7 girls sing, the
rest are boys providing support on the violin and mridangam. All the children are in the age group of 12 to 15, and have won prizes
in the bhajan competitions conducted by the Bhaktaswara and TAMBRAS. Shri.Udayalur Kalyanaraman sir has himself judged one such
competition and awarded them the first prize.

We hear that just like Music Academy in Chennai, perofrming in Shanmukhananda hall, Mumbai in Bombay is dear to every musician.
All though the group mentioned above is a young group, they are quite good in singing, as each of the girls individually are training in carnatic music for more than 5/6 years. May I request you to examine if the group could be given a chance to perform bhajans before
an august audience such as our great rasikas forum members at mumbai, and others. The Kids would be thrilled, and it would be a great morale booster. Their travel expenses would be borne by the individual parents of the kids. That is not a problem.

Thanks in advance

Saramati Sir..

First let me inform you that I am in no way associated with the Sabha. I'm just an ardent rasika and a student of carnatic music who tries to update on the concert schedules and try to attend the concerts conducted by various sabhas in Mumbai.....Kindly conctact the Sabha for further details. If the group is talented then I am sure they would give you chance..I think that is the case everywhere :)

Prashant,
nIvADanEgAna and kOti nadulu! Waiting for the recording. By the way, I don't think anyone mentioned kOTi nadulu in that new popular thread of the Bi 6, this brisk tOdi kruti. Can hear Ari singing it now. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Prashant and his team sang a very nice concert for 1 hr 10 mins. I am a very good friend of Prashant, but this post is intended not to review the program but highlight something else.

the first kriti sung by him - rAma nannu brOva is usually sung by almost everyone as rAma nannu brOvarA - the rA being a part of the word rAvEmakO. The meaning of the pallavi is completely altered by this incorrect split. Prashant took care to research the meaning of this song word by word, and presented this correct version. Kudos to his commitment.

The jaganmOhini kriti was a gem.

Huh, from my listening experience, I too was under the impression it's brOvarA... Don't think I've ever heard anyone sing it correctly then! Looking forward to the recording as usual, Prashant. You know I'm a big fan!

I attended the NATYANJALI FESTIVAL yesterday. There were around 18 Gurus who performed. I could attend only 12 performances. Out of which, Sri Deepak Mazumdar was simply superb as always....The others were mediocre.

Great selection - esp. Kotinadulu (which, I agree, was glaringly absent in the big 6 thread) and Mamava Sathatham. Look forward to the upload...

Hi prashant and others, looking at the postings, prashant seems to have done well in the the concert.... kudos man! i'm back from bangalore after a good long break of 2weeks. The aradhana for which i had gone went on very well. had some really good flute practice sessions with my guruji. i've uploaded some snaps of the aradhana at http://picasaweb.google.com/Niru.Damle/ ... eat=email# . Do check them out!

The observation on the krithi rama nannu brova RA was indeed very interesting. attention to such small detailing is necessary isn't it??!! no wonder it is called a FINE ART! will look fwd for the upload prashant

Smt. Vaishnavi Anand is a disciple of Alapuzha Sri Venkatesan and is a fine singer. Her husband Bombay Sri Anand is a disciple of Kum. A. Kanyakumari. Sri Vijay Natesan is scheduled to play the mrudangam for this concert. This should be an excellent concert by a very committed team of musicians.
