This is your time to nominate egomaniacs among Carnatic musicians to the Hall of Fame, Dec 2008 Roll.
Newly-minted Sangeetha Kalanidhis who insult accompanying artists (including those who have earned their Sangeetha Kalanidhi years earlier) and the audience by showing up late; musicians who violate the grammar of Carnatic Music to the dismay of purists and the delight of bathroom singers by drifting mindlessly from raga to raga in the name of graha bhedam or creativity; violinists who waste time by playing mindlessly long alapanas unrelated to the kalpana of the vocalist; mridanga vidwans who bang away to the discomfort of the audience but complain about the audience walking out while they are playing a "brilliant" tani avarthanam, etc., are all fair game.
Let us see how many oxen get gored!

But to wat end this discussion ? what are you trying to arrive at ? There are a few artistes who come late .. there are a few violinists who take more time than the main artiste .. there are a few who really bang the instrument .. i agree ... Just take these three mantras :
Look (hear)
Ignore
Proceed (to where ur ideals are)
Instead of just wallowing in these kinds of threads .. hahahah

Nominating with no names? How can that be?
I think that the examples given by Harimau all come under the heading of fair comment and review anyway; they are not matters, for example, of controversial off-stage (or even back-stage) behaviour.
I do not see any reason that, if an artist behaves in a way that is not approved of, it should not be mentioned here, but at the same time, I too lack enthusiasm for a "wallowing" (JB) thread! I also second the thought that feet are the best thing to vote with.

This kind of thread has some possibility to get out of control very quickly. So, just watch out for that. May be, reviewers have already called out/can call out such examples in the context of the concert reviews, as Nick suggests.
Harimau, you always seem to be in this mood of 'righteous indignation' on most matters we discuss here. CM world/this forum is not that bad a place after all..
But I do enjoy your sarcasm and cynicism if it is accompanied by only a small dosage of 'righteous indignation'
