SRUTI, Philadelphia’s premier India music and dance society, is feting its 25th anniversary this year with an extravaganza of Indian classical music and dance performances featuring well known artists from both India and the U.S.
To kick off the festivities, SRUTI is holding a two-day “Thyagaraja Aradhana” (music festival) event on March 19th and 20th. featuring vocal and dance recitals, plus a vegetarian Indian lunch.
Over 100 kids and adults from the Greater Philadelphia area are all practicing hard for the last several months and are going to present individual and group recitals, keeping alive centuries old traditions.
Day 1 Program Highlights - 8 AM Saturday March 19th 2011
Program Highlights
Group Vocal rendition of Thyagaraja’s immortal Utsava Sampradaya and Pancharatna compositions by over 50 participants with percussion (Mridangam, Kanjira and Ghatam), flute and violin accompaniments. Utsava Sampradaya Compositions group singing will be led by Ms. Prabha Subramanian. Pancharatna Compositions group singing will be led by Ms. Kiranavali Vidyasankar.
Carnatic Indian Classical Vocal Recital by young Anil Chitrapu, a talented kid from Blue Bell PA, accompanied by popular young artists, Siddharth Ashok Kumar on the Violin and Harsha Kanumalla on the Mridangam
Main Concert – Carnatic Indian Classical Vocal Recital by Toronto Brothers, accompanied by Sandhya Anand on the Violin and Rajna Swaminathn on the Mridangam
Bharatanatyam Indian Classical Dance recital by young Shoba Narayanan, an amazing dancer from Bryn Mawr PA
Individual and group recitals by over 100 kids and adults
Delicious Indian Vegetarian lunch and snacks included in price of admission
When: Saturday March 19th, 8:30 AM to 7 PM
Where: Science Center Auditorium, Montgomery County Community College, Blue Bell, PA
Cost: $10 per person or $20 per family of four

Carnatic Indian Classical Vocal Recital by young Ranjani Prabhakar, a talented kid from Maple Glen PA, accompanied by Sandhya Anand on the Violin and Harsha Kanumalla on the Mridangam
Main Concert – Thematic 1 hour concert by Revathi Subramony featuring Composers of the Indian state of Karnataka. Accompaniments include Sandhya Anand on the Violin and Keerthi Venkataramani on the Mridangam
Delicious Indian Vegetarian lunch and snacks included in price of admission
When: Sunday March 20th, 9:00 AM to 6 PM
Where: Hindu Temple, 760 Yorklyn Road, Hockessin DE 19707
