Wishing the function grace and success befitting the Royal Household, those of us unable to attend look for a superb video; especially since our favourite Stars are performing!

As the tenth edition of Swati Sangeetotsavam kicks off in royal style with a lineup of artistes befitting the occasion, here is wishing the organiser, Rama Varmaji, the very best from all our hearts. Over the past ten years, he has donned the mantle of organiser with grace and finesse, transforming Trivandrum and the month of January into a place and time that every music enthusiast looks forward to. It couldn't have been easy, with the kind of lackadaisical attitude prevelant and the politics involved and more so to balance the roles of both an organiser and an artiste.

Having been exposed to the Madras music scene in December for the first time this year, I can say with all sincerity that here is a man who doesn't compromise on principles or quality. The fast food version of Carnatic classical concerts, while having the advantage of giving exposure to maximum number of artistes, has also the distinct disadvantage of not having enough time to explore the brilliance and nuances of classical music in its purest form. The rasikas too are spoilt for choices with the result that many rush to hear another concert while one is halfway through.

The Swati Sangeetotsavam stands head and shoulders above most festivals- for its lineup of artistes, ambience, eficiency, quality , and last but not the least the charming introductions given by Varmaji as befits each occasion.

Wish you the very best Sir, for a successful tenth year celebration and hoping for many many more in the years to come.

Very nice skutty:
spoken just befitting the occasion of a grand musical fest under Royal Patronage. Certainly HH Swathi ThirunaaL is the presiding Royalty as is Lord Padmanabha the Presiding Deity. The august presence and guidance of our Varmaji as the organiser eloquently enhances the star-studded Darbar. Our cyber presence with dignity is assured awaiting the divine musical experience from the finest vidvaans/vidushis of the CM Art. At the inauguration may I invoke the divine verses from the Rig veda:
iLA sarasvatI mahI tisrO dEvIrmayObhuvaH |
barhiH sIdantvasridhaH ||
(1.13.9)
(May the Goddess' ILA, SarasvatI and MahI the creators of delight arrive and take their seats on the sacred grass (with their power manifesting fully among us).
Note mahI is the vedic Goddess bhAratI, the form of SarasvatI who promotes Fine Arts).

While we are sure that Varmaji will eventually share the videos with us, may we request any attending Rasika to report grahically to us as appropriate the daily events.

Thanks....

Sri Sanjay Subramanian gave a brilliant performance yesterday, befitting opening for the Magnificent Festival of Music. Very pleased to know that Charsur will be recording and releasing few concerts, keeping fingers crossed that Sri Varma's concert too will feature amongst the ones released. Sir's veena concert DVD, released 5 years back, is such a tressure!

One query to Varma Sir - This year Thaanam CDs are not on sale? Some of my friends are eagerly waiting to own their copies. Once again very very happy to begin the new year with this amazing musical treat, Thank you Sir!!!

musique4ever,
Due to some inconveniences, couldn't pull off a trip to the festival, as eager as I was to hear you and others. Good to know Charsur is bringing out CDs (?), downloads. God wiling, will be there next year. Your concert in Chennai clashed with a 'family' concert. A pity that I missed it.
