There is something called brika sadhaka varisai (i.e brika practice verses) which are essentially swaras that are set in various weighty ragas to be sung (practised) in aakara mode.

You can improve your "brihas" by practising "yoha" :-).

srkris, can you please point to resources for the "brika sadhaka varasais"? Can I download them from somewhere? Or are there books where I can find them?

srikris,

Will akara saadagam in 3rd speed help ? singing in 3rd speed and brihas sound similar to me. Is there a difference between the two?

I am aware that it is there in one of those books published by A.S.Panchapakesa Iyer

I am sr-kris and not sri-kris :-)

As far as I know that is what is done (practising swaras of particular ragas in akara mode in various speeds), maybe there is more to it.

Girish you can try Carnatic Music Book Centre at Sri Puram in Royapettah. If the book is still in print, chances are they will have it.

Ganamrutha Bodhini by AS Panchapakesa Iyer has these sequences at the very end of the book, IIRC.
