A few days back, in the interview in World Space, Dr Durga made some observations about concerts. She said, that "the performer should make notations for each concert and just not go and sing there 'vAtApi gaNapatim' They should have their own compositions' (Or words to that effect).
I have not understood the thought process of the lady.
Can someone clarify what she means?

Dear vgvindan, this was regarding confluence music or fusion concerts only, not regular carnatic music concerts. Dr Durga said that when 2 genres of music are being brought together, the performers need to keep in mind the various features of each genre, the timbre of the instruments that would be used for the performance and several other factors.
Dr. SAK Durga feels that pieces must be composed for such concerts, and artists should not be using existing songs like Vatapi ganapatim. In fact, she is presently working on such compositions, which will be presented at the International Music Festival in Bangalore next month, where the focus is on Afro-Asian music cultures.

srividya,
Thanks.
If I am not wrong, it was you who was interviewing Dr Durga. Nice interview.
I really appreciated her views about the voice culture in CM. CM musicians with totally uncultured voice have been propped up and become gurus and also find place in the race of 'kalA nidhis'.
It was amusing to hear her saying that her consultation is more seasonal - a lot of artists rushing for treatment or consultation during the December mad-ra(u)s(h)-music.
Can masterpieces (like Mona Lisa or 'baNTu rIti koluvu) be created in an Exhibition? Leave alone concert-hopping - like film festivals? Spontaneity - you are the biggest casualty in CM.
Thanks.
