They say every wise man is a vidwan (and every wise woman a vidushi), regarless of whether he/she is not connected with music (the root being "vid" - knowledge). Today, let us celebrate the birthday of one of our oldest, and most active contributors to this forum - a vidwan in his own right (for sharing the store of his knowledge with the entire world selflessly)... and thank him for his service to the cause of music.
A happy birthday to Shri Kulkarni, and thanks to Shri Param for this timely reminder and idea.

A birthday comes once every year! But a coolkarni comes once a millenium! You bring more sunshine into the lives of CM Lovers than the Sun himself since He disappears for half of the day! So more than a birthday this is a day of Thanksgiving for all of us! May you continue to shine and shower sweet CM for the rest of our lifetime!

I must admit that I am simply overwhelmed.
Thank you , Thank you.All of you.
Strange but true. One of the biggest beneficiaries in this whole exercise is ME.
I feel just like the clay being worked on by the potter. For years , I was stuffed with rare material from across the seas by Raju Asokan , who just left me to my instincts to find and enjoy his treasures.
And now on this forum, the basic mass of clay is taking shape ,slowly.
My own uploads had a very modest begginning .Going back to the days when I used to admire LaksmanJi's posts on various forums. It is a fact that I think of him as my Manasika Guru when it comes doing our small bit to throw more light on a given topic of interest.Time and again I used to wonder at the speed of his response (unless he was on a holiday ).We could almost take him for granted ..
Like everyone else who has never had a formal initiation into classical music (or even the benefit of somebody at home being tutored) my taste for music was purely sensual. In the sense that the Music alone used to have a lasting effect , if it was performed well.
And then one fine day , a friend of mine requested me to convert his Gurus (TRS) concert renderings into mp3.
I was not sure of how enjoyable the experience would be ,but eventually that turned out to be a transforming experience.
All that I had listened to until then , started looking different. And magnificently different.Suddenly so many dimensions to CM started to get visible ..so many ways of getting happily lost in this web of Divinity.
I am sure the effect would have been same If i Had encountered a disciple a friend of SRJ !!
And that is when this forum started making such a huge difference.
It was one thing to have a Cd full of wodeyars krithis safely locked up for listening. It was another thing to enjoy it in the company of some of the best minds in this business..
And this is what I treasure as the essence of this forum.Pure celebration .
Not just today ,on my birthday. But each and every day .There are a few things in my world today to beat the excitement I get when I type rasikas.org....
So Folks. Thanks once again. For all the nice words.
Srkris. Now if you can please move this whole thread to General discussions.I can imagine myself sitting on the dias with all the other names in this Vidwan thread and all of them quizzically wondering what this Ball Boy is doing there.
I prefer to be the CM's equivalent of a Tennis Ball Boy.Watching the proceedings in all earnest and picking up the threads of discussion and handing it over to the masters. With an occasional dash across the court as my golden moment.Again and again.
For the records I turned 48 yesterday.
cmlover / kiransurya .
i did not plan for the special treat . Param took me by surprise.
So i have on the table for today
an old promise met for sahanapriyan on the sahana thread
and two scintillating RTPs by Balmurali in Hamsavinodini.on the wodeyar thread.
plus a nice video clip tomorrow.
Thank you , Thank you.All of you.

Vidwan Coolkarni:
When the youngest of the members - the man behind this forum - Srkris calls you a Vidwan, I am unable to resist myself from appreciating his thoughtfulness in giving you the right and best title that is most deserving to you.
My family joins me in wishing you many more happy returns of the day, though belated it may be.

Coolkarni sir,
You are definitely keeping your promises. Everyday, i just log in for a few minutes to see if there is a sahana and shyama sastri krithi in the folder. If yes, i am excited(as today). If not, i know you are working on it.
My family joins you in wishing a very very happy b'day. I pray to the Almighty to bless you on this day.
Regards

I saw Param's thread only today.Let me wish you a belated Happy Birthday, and may this day usher in, by Almighty Lord's Blessings, all the very best that Life has to offer to you and your family by way of Good Health, Long Life, Prosperity,Peace of Mind and Eternal Happiness.May you continue to serve the music loving fraternity with the same zeal and enthusiasm and leave your own distinct imprints on the sands of time as one of the great altruistic and philanthropic souls to walk this planet.
God bless you.

Dear coolkarni
That response really comes from the heart! That is what we like most! You are a simple honest straight-speaking "Rasika" who likes to share his enjoyment with the rest of us. You are loved by us not because you u/l choice CM clips but for your openness and simplicity! When you make a promise you keep it! (you have the memory of an elephant!). You go out of the way spending your own resources (I don't mean money) to meet even strangers on behalf of the Rasikas to get the "best" from them and at the same time converting them to loosen their hearts and share their "knowledge" and love of CM with us! You have given a new meaning to the word "sharing" itself. It is not the idle process of "possession" but it is one of "common enjoyment". Many times as you reflect candidly as to how you came by an experience we can feel the flow of words straight from the heart. I have the same feeling at times as I had while reading Bapuji's autobiography! I just cannot imagine where you find the time for all these "public service" while pursuing a hectic career of your own. Again you are spending the time with us which legitimately belongs to your family. Our gratitude to them all!
I am glad you particularly referred to SrImaan LakShman as your maanasika guru. He is again the invisible self-effacing benefactor of CM enthusiats world over! And again we can never adequately thank Ramakrishnan for the gateway without which we would never have come across this temple of association.
I am not naming everybody (for example "sahanapriyan" (he knows;-)whose goodwill is the driving force in this forum. But I am just identifying you as the Icon of goodwill of all the Rasikas at this forum. Let me just reword our daily prayer to reflect our thanks to one and all!

Dear Kulkarni-garu,
Very very belated b'day greetings to you!
I have been on this bboard only for the past few weeks, but have immensely enjoyed your postings. I only wish you would not let the recent copyright police incident to restrict your natural instincts, and wish you would visit here more often.
Look forward to greeting you on time in 2007!
Cheers,
Jayaram

I have been very busy travelling-thats the nature of my work - long periods when everyone wonders what I do to earn a living and then such periods !!
No ,the incidents dont have a direct effect. But indirectly Yes ...they force me to be more and more choosy. So you can rest assured that the extraordinary tracks will find their way here. But for now , I am stuck with work !

Perhaps you can upload your picture - hopefully no copyright infringments on that?

Would be of interest to all of us to see what the b'day boy looks like...
Thanks.

Ha Ha
I have to explain it to you.
Good old days when I used to upload like mad , first time rasikas-contacts who came to my home always had this at the back of their mind.
Most of them ended up being pleasantly surprised to see that I was not a retired person and would settle down confortably after I told them that the small factory in the Ground floor was my small business centre and that was the reason why I could afford so much time at rasikas.
Except for intermittent periods when I had to keep travelling to meet Customers(like now)

I agree - each day I'm discovering something new and fascinating here...
Thank you for providing me the e-darshan of Shri 'Cool'.
I thought it's only appropriate to include his picture in this thread, so here goes...
