RECORDS IMMORTAL
A lecture cum listening session on 78 RPM records by
Lalitharam
An online presentation premiered online on 26 Feb 2022, 6-8 pm

In this unique presenation, Lalitharam traces briefly the advent of 78 RPM records in karnatic music and the role played by them in popularising music as well as the musicians not to say of the minimum available recording techniques of those times. Nevertheless, the 78 RPM record of 6 minutes (3+3 minutes - both sides put together)contained music of high standard that paved the way for further sophistications.

Following discs were played during the presentation with an excellent commentary by Lalitharam interspersed with interesting, valuable facts:

3 Veena Dhanammal-Mahima Teliya- Sankarabharanam(The legendary artist singing along the kriti of Aanai Ayya)
4 D K Pattammal - Yaaro Ivar Yaaro - Bhairavi
5 T N Rajaratnam Pillai : Nagaswaram- Charukesi (Raga alapana only)

13 S G Kittappa -Kodaiyile - Ragamalika Viruttham
14 Madurai Mani Iyer - Parimalarangapathe- Kamboji Ragam & Pallavi (Swars in ragamalika)
15 Karukuricchi Arunachalam : Nagaswaram - Ee vasudha - Sahana

Lalitharam deserves appreciation for taking us on a musical journey down the era of 78 RPMs. His narration is so informative, interesting and valuable, I don't think there is any need for me to explain!
Strongly suggest rasikas to listen.
