Nice article. Sri R. Lakshminarayanan - if recall coorectly was felicitated by Sri Semmangudi in the Maruti Bhakta Samajam Trust event 1997 and honored at that time - Sri Semmangudi himself announced in his speech - as Rs 25, 000 a big sum for a tambura artiste.

https://youtu.be/9Wv5RHCVG_c?t=183 - Here he is behind Dr BMK.

Now in the current season, the vocal person ( at least that I can observe) is getting very sensitive advanced Microphone and the tambura and even the reference Sruti , both are drowned out by the voice pick up. So I cannot hear it in live streams.

The microphone is very advanced it seems to even avoid the breath of the artiste, it does not pickup anything from surroundings.

Just happened to check the concert of Sri Saketaramanan in Musically Margazhi. The modulation is extra stage managed to make the live stream a grand success! It gets better with violin playing replies or vocalist softens his voice during Alapana.

Our Carnatic Tampura has always been in the back only along with many kinds of dissonances which have never been observed at all by most of our musicians. In fact, this is a very urgent matter of very heavy discussion but none of our musicians comes forward to hold or participate in any of such discussions as they obviously spill out their own beans. amsharma/msakella
