Yesterday morning in Isai pettagam, A Deekshitar kriti concert by Brinda and Vegavahini was relayed. It was excellent- started with Arunachalanatham, Thyagarajapalayasumam, Sree Rajagopala, Chetasree, Thryagarajaya namaste. etc. The swaras for Sree Rajagopala were very elaborate- which normally you will not hear in BM music.

OST concert in NP on Saturday was very good. He sang, Renukadevi-Kannada bangala, Ninne nammi nanu in Thodi, Kanavendamo- Sreeranjini etc.

Today 4 Nov, morning in Madras A there was the concert of V.Subramaniam. Though rendered at an advanced age, the concert was very good with Sugunamule, Kripaya palaya and Jagadeeswari. I would like to hear his concert at an earlier stage. The one I heard in TVM radio in early eightees where he had sung an elaborate Salagabhairavi (Padavini) still etched in may memory. I would love to hear something like that.

Today, 5 Nov, morning in Madras A, there was the violin concert of Kumbakonam Rajamanikkam Pillai accompanied by Palghat Mani Iyer. Two gaints- Top class concert. Marubalga, Yochana, Sadaramava (suruti). Main was Ksheerasagara sayana-Devagandhari. Very smooth- high in raga bhavam and melody. PMI complementing excellently.

I like to have the link .CRama.! Besides ,I have only heard of Alatur Bros giving an elaborate treatment to this Raga with RTP if I remember right.

I do not have that now with me. Casette got spoiled. I still regret for that. I have not heard Alathur Bros RTP in Salagabhairavi. Alathur Sreenivasa Iyer was specialist in alapana of Salagabhairavi.

Today in madras- A it was pradeep kumar accompanied by VVR/R.Vittal.he sang nannu pAlimpa as sub main and dharmavati .OdOdi vandhEn kaNNA as main.he seems to be a vidvan of potential but who is yet to explore the divinity of music and rather wasting his time in shallow things.I only wish him to change.

Ganesh- Reg Pradeep kumar I agree with your views. He is learning under Tiruchi J.Venkatraman. But that does not show in his concerts.I heard that he is busy in film circuit.

Today morning, in Chennai A, it was Padma Sugavanam. She sang, Ninnu cheppa, Gattiganu(Begada), Sringara rasamanjari(Rasamanjari-Rasikapriya), Ninne nammi nanu.
She is a very good vocalist with good patantharam, vidwat and stage presence. I have head her live a couple of times. Her alapanas of Begada and Thodi were superb. Vyavaharam laden singing.Disciple of Seetha Rajan. She is bound to hit big in the near future.

Yesterday madras-A 8.45 a.m OST/VLK/KMANI/VS was good.he sang neevAda in sArangA,a song in kalyANI ( why sing these rAgams side by side ? ) pantuvarALi kriti with svarams/madhyamAvati AlApanai -rAmakathArasa with N&S.the percussion was excellent.I would like the singers to stand at a point and sing a long korvai during rAgams.

Today @ 5 p.m FM- gold Thrissur Bros.gave a good concert.the rarely heard sAkEta nagara of mysore sadAsivarAo(what a composer !) in harikAmbOdhi was carried out beautifully by the bros.with lilting svarams,bAlakanakamaya and main reethigowLai-janani.the AlApanai was good.one of the bros.has TMK's influence.akkarai sornalatA was excellent in her replies.her reethigowLai was full of rakthi sanchArams.sabaash.thrissur mohan/sunil kumar/madipAkkam murali accompanied with a lot of energy.

Today, 24/11, morning in Madras A, the concert of Visalakshi Nityananad was good. She started with Paarvi onre podume (Suruti), then Sabhapathikku and Janani Mamava (Bhairavi). Good alapanas of Abhogi and Bhairavi.

Today 25/11, morning in Madras A, Kolkata Srividya sang very well. She started with Brovabharama with swarams, A very good Dhanyasi for Balakrishnan, with swarams followed by Bhjare re chitha. The alapana of Kalyani was really captivating. Must hear her more.
Is she Rasikapriya Kannan (Kolkata)'s daughter?

Today morning in Madras A. Sandeep Narayanan sang well. He started with Kuvalayadala nayana- Natakurinji. Then Kappaduve in Anandabhairavi, a kriti of GNB in the ragam Samakadambari- I am hearing for the first time- similarity with Gowdamalhar. The main was Bhajare re chitha in Kalyani. The concert stood out for the selection of songs. The songs except the main song are rarely heard in the concert platform. Of course, HIS MASTERS VOICE- BHAVAM- EVERYTHING. To hear him more in this season.

Yes.samakadambari's avarohanam seems to be same with gaudamalhar.the aarohanam is SMGMPDS.I am subject to correction.yes.sandeep sang well.heard this song first time a couple of months back from J.A.jayanth in a GNB remembrance day concert.

Today morning slot, was the excellent concert of Suguna Varadachary- a sequel to our discussion in another thread- and what selection of songs. The concert started with the vara kriti Divakaratanujam with nice swara patterns appended. Then a majestic Kalyani with a rare kriti-Eevaramadugudura of Tyagaraja. The main song Raave- Thodi Swarajati of SS with neraval and swaras- and ended with Thirupugazh in Desh.

Today in FM- gold @ 5 p.m subhikshA rangarAjan gave a v.g.concert.she has a powerful but melodious voice and her means & methods are also commendable.she sang O jagadamba ( Ananda bhairavi ) as sub main and main pantuvarALi
( aparAmabhakti).she sang the charaNam " lakshmidEvi valachuna" and sang N & S also at this place.didn't sing the mudra charaNam (kapi vAridi).subhikshA may concentrate a bit on modulation and certain peripheral niceties that will make her singing still better.VLK & RR accompanied.

Today morning 8.45 AM, Bharat Kumar gave a very good concert. Started with a rare Kalyani varnam followed by Sree Kanchinayike in Asaveri of Annaswami Sastry, then Bale in Reethigowla and the main was Mahalakshmi in Sankarabharanam. A vidwan who will make it big soon .

Today Madras- A @ 8.45 a.m broadcast had MahArAjapuram rAmachandran / Dr.narmadA /RR.both the sub- main (hamir kalyANi - puraharanandana with lilting svarams) and main madhyamAvati - vinAyakuni were presented unhurriedly.he couldn't elaborate on N&S in the main due to paucity of time.a nice concert.

Today morning, in Madras A, the concert of Gayathri Girish was excellent. Nice selection of songs. Sree Mathrubhootham with swaras, Teliyaleru rama, Bhuvaneswariya with ragam and swaras, Marachithivo- Lathanthapriya of Mysore Yoganarasimham, Sreenivasa thavan charanam as Main with an elaborate raga alapana. More to hear her in this season.

Meenalochani. Madras A relays carnatic concerts daily at 8.45 AM. It comes in 703 MW. On Wednesdays and Fridays it also relays concerts at 9.30 or 9.45 PM. On Saturdays and Sundays night 9.30PM, National Programme of Music- sometimes features carnatic also. On Sundays morning, it is titled Isaipettagam where an old concert is relayed from the archives. On Fridays morning, it will mostly be Nagaswaram. You can get to hear good Nagaswaram concerts in this slot.
FM Gold relays carnatic concerts daily at 1.00PM (mostly commercial recordings) and also concerts at 5.00PM.IIRC, Tuesdays and Thursdays it relays a concert at 10.PM. At morning 6.10AM, the same channel relays devotional music- An auspicious way to begin the day with stothrams and devotional songs.
Pl post a capsule review after hearing the radio concerts.

Today morning in Madras A, there was the concert of Neyyattinkara Vasudevan accompanied by Chalakudy Narayanaswamy and Mavelikkara SR Raju. The songs were Devadevakalayamide,Kandajoodumi,Sree Mathrubhootham and Appan avatharitha as Main. A sublime concert to savour.

Neyyatinkara Vasudevan concluded the concert with 'Venkatachalanilayam' in Sindhubhairavi.
AIR might as well strive to avoid 'pitch variations' between items in a concert(usually encountered in archival recordings) through suitable technological intervention.

Again, the wordings in the originally recorded announcement shall be suitably modified when concerts of past-masters are re-broadcast. In today's concert itself, the mid-announcement said: "Neyyattinkara Vasudevan paadikkondirukkiraar"! (Incidentally all the vidwans of the concert are no more).

I was just pointing out to certain things that would make presentations in the media more effective.
AIR may kindly look into this.

I think AIR Madras A has started relaying the concerts of past masters. They used to do this a few years back just before the start of the season broadcasts. Last few days, they have relayed Sathur, Madurai Somu, Neyyattinkara and today it was Nedunuri with Lalgudi. A wonderful thodi and Chesinadalli. Incidentally, as I listened today, I could make out as Chesinadalli. Earlier, many people including sleeve notes on records have written Jesinadalli.

I think in telugu jesi & chesi -both are o.k.like jooda & chooda.some one may clarify.and CR,the violin accompaniment was by nAgai muraLidharan not lAlgudi.This concert was broadcast live from MA during dec 2010 or 2011 by AIR.that was a beautiful tOdi.I thought of him more as I was listening.my first concert of his,a dec.1984 or 85 in MA where he sang a magnificent kAmbOdhi with O rangasayee.Like many of U I also miss him with a heavy heart.

I would like to copy my post on Nedunuri in the 'Vidwans & vidushis' thread here also since the memorable concert of 1980s which I have referred to was duly relayed by AIR Trivandrum the same night.

I was fortunate to listen to his maiden concert at navaratri mandapam, Trivandrum during the eighties (IIMC MC on Violin and VR on mridanga)
He sang an exquisite Mohanakalyani (seve srikaantam). the main suite Natakurinji was dealt with in great detail true to the traditions .
He also rendered a Sloka from Bhakti Manjari and I still remember the Dhanyasi (a 'made for Nedunuri' raga!)

T N Rajaratnam Pillai's nagaswaram concert from the archives is on AIR right now (Chennai A).
Upachaaramu (bhairavi-roopaka) was the first song.
Now a detailed aaalapana of Shanmukhapriya.

AIR's mid-announcement was again " TNR Nagaswaram vaasitthukkondirukkiraar"!!

Today morning in Madras A, there was the concert of Ravikiran accompanied by MASundareswaran and KVPrasad. The songs were Sugunamule, Brihannayaki(Andali) and Kaa vaa vaa. For Sugunamule, he did neraval at an unusual place Sree nayaka (3rd line in charanam) and for Kaa Vaa Vaa also in an unusual place Sree Padmanabhan maruga. An Excellent concert.

N.Ravikiran's concert was full of substance normally and I am happy that I could listen to this concert despite being in Hyderabad thro hathw@y on channel 801 - AIR Tamil.The sahAnA that followed the varALi was touching.

Today OST accompanied by DelhiSR on violin sang exclusive tarangams.a recording from the tarangam festival.the main in kEdAragowLai - mangaLaalaya maamavadEva was good with R & S.

Today 8.45 a.m Amrutha Venkatesh's MFAC concert broadcast was enjoyable.anupamagunAmbudhi,sankarAbharaNam main and ashtapati in dEsh.there is a detailed review by VVSuresh.

Yesterday FM- Gold broadcast had K.gAyatri's concert.a lovely concert.latAngi - wenkataramaNA and mArubalga with only N& S.the latAngi AlApanai was v.g.in spite of not trying any thing new.anurAdhA sridhar & ganapathy rAman accompanied very well.

On saturday Hyderabad sisters concert was v.g.an exquisite kAmbOdhi with sree subhramanyAya namastE.they treated it royally , I should say. chArumati raghurAm excelled in her reply.

Earlier T.V.rAmprasAd's concert was good too.a beautiful vAchaspathi.he sang bEgada well.

AIR, National Program on SUN 21st Dec,2014. After a long time, I heard the NP program. Smt.Parvati Shankar, Mumbai studio recording, performed and it was a good concert. Well planned and executed. Pantuvarali, Reetigowlai and Todi (main) ragas were handled with consummate skills. She was given accompaniments very ably by both the violinist, Sri.....Ramachandran and the mridangam, Sri....Srinivasan. Given the opportunities, PS will be one of the good vocalists to scale higher reaches of popularity, soon. I am sorry for reporting not all the details. I have heard her performance for the first time.

It is 'Chesinadella' as rightly posted by CRama. When sandhi prayogam is resorted for the sake of grammar, the changes do happen but not on the opening and beginning line.

Today TVG's MA concert was broadcast in Madras A.Today a review also appears in The Hindu.an enjoyable one.esp.the tOdi.SV ventured into TNR sangathis (which are very difficult in violin) with aplomb.the neraval in vArAhi bhairavi was excellent.

The other 2 concerts I would like to mention are TVR's concert in MA with MC/MAE. grand kAmbOdhi and N.Ravikiran's sastry hall concert for which a review is there already.a v.g.one.

Today's broadcast had Dr.Babysreeram's MMA concert excerpts.I missed her concert on Saturday last in SRSN telecast from 9-10 a.m as I was listening to hyd.sis.in radio.her bhairavi - (ni)sarieveramma was fantastic.a very talented viduhshi.I look forward to hear her in person.accompaniments were good.

Today chennai A broadcast had season concert of NeelA rAmgOpAl.puNNiyam oru kOdi in keeravANi the main and a thillAnA in darbAri kAnadA were the only 2 nos.It was a very decent concert.her voice has a lot of weight and can still reach higher octaves without much difficulty.old is gold.

Fm- gold broadcast now had chinmayA sisters.a lovely & detailed dEnukA with teleiyalEru with good round of svarams.earlier they sang vAraNamukhavA in hamsadhwani.they sang well.

Today madras A broad cast- K.N.ranganatha sarma's MA concert.simhendramadhyamam was good with kAmAkshi which was played twice !of course they admitted this and assured that this concert will be broadcast on some other day.a good concert.the other songs were vallabha nAyakasya,vaarashikivAhana of HMB and a song in behAg.

I spoke to A.I.R.Music section and pointed out the error (repeat-twice). A lady officer assured to look into the matter. The error pointed out by me was acknowledged at the end of the programme by an announcement and full broadcast would take shortly.

Right now (03.01.2015: 8.45 a.m.)Chennai A is airing excerpts of Pantula Rama's MA concert.

It is really innovative she sings Taanam version of the chittaswaras for each charana of the Pancharatna Dudugu(gowla). Chittaswara, Taanam version and sahitya - in that order. Kind of improvisation within the boundaries of tradition!

Thanks to AIR to have included this in the broadcast.

After a rare Anandabhaiaravi kriti, now it is Kalyaani aalaapana.

Must have been a great concert.
