T S Sathyavathi
It is my pleasure to open a thread about Dr T S Sathyavathi, a scholarly musician-performer from Karnataka.
Smt Sathyavathi follows in the footsteps of her sisters Smt T S Vasundhara and Smt T S Vasanta Madhavi, both accomplished musicians.
It had been on my list for a long time to open a thread about Smt Sathyavathi and today, I have been motivated to initiate the thread.
As Varsha has written in the Kacheri Reviews and Recordings section, here is a sample of her virtuosity - Carnatic Music at its pristine best

Manasa Vachasa - Begada - Vasudevachar - 54 minutes

There are many clips available on YouTube which includes an elaborate interview on a kannaDa TV channel.

I too was thinking of opening a thread on her but very glad you have opened it.
Her rendering of Pranavaakaaram in youtube is outstanding - perfect diction and rythm.
I understand she has knowledge of mridangam also.
Hope someone would enlighten about her background, Gurus and other information

I heard Manasa Vachasa- Outstanding rendition. I have not heard this song earlier. I heard TSS demonstration on kalpana swaras in the Conference organised by MUDHRA two years back which is till ringing in my ears. Unfortunately she is not featured in Chennai concerts.

Found some video links of shaale.com and among them is a series of gems from Dr. TSS. She takes up 'Telisi Rama Chintanato' and unravels its beauty in her trademark style. I found these clips to be incredibly informative and inspiring:

Sathyavathi
Vidushi T S Sathyavathi is an erudite musician . Not heard her at all , looks like her thematic presentation of Sadguru Thyagaraja would have been a lovely presentation.

Good topic, Rajesh. I am surprised that there is no thread for her already.
A great vidushi and a treasure trove of knowledge. I have seen a few lec-dems by her and was amazed by the depth of her scholarship.
I hope that Keerthi (her shishya), Sreeni RajaRao, Ramakriya and of course Varsha can add further to this discussion thread here.
In the meantime, here is a great lec dem on the structure of musical compositions http://vimeo.com/37846337

She is well versed in Samskritham and talks chaste English, a delight to listen to from all angles, felicity of expression, classicism of music and depth of knowledge. She has a decorous way of putting forth her views, differing, if she should, pleasantly.

Re: T S Sathyavathi
I have listened to the audio clippings available in youtube of this artiste.
Extremely melodious and full of bhava her music is. I feel she develops an immediate connection with the audience when she sings.
Wonder why her concerts are not organized in Chennai?
Music Academy should invite her for both concerts and lec-dems also.

There's an excellent lec-dem on Dikshithar's compositions on youtube. Subsequently I downloaded some concerts from Sangeethapriya and found them to be of a high quality as well.
