mudras for Lord purandara and ankusa

Post by laya2 »

Hi,

In the song gajavadanna beduve there is a line which tells that "You bear the pASa(noose) and ankuSa(goad)".

Tamrachuda mudra can be used for Pasa, what is the mudra for ankusa? How should we show the pasa mudra (is it held side, down or straight).

Lord Purandara vittala - what mudra do we use for this?

This is said to Hamsadwani ragam and what talam is it?

thanks

In this song purandara-viThala should be treated as a name of viSNu and the corresponding mudrA [two tripatAka-s?] can be used.

Purandara is a name of Indra, and is not related to the context.

Holding two tripataka for Purandara Vittala is not wrong, but, an appropriate mudra here would be a mushti near the chest & stand straight. Since it's a composition of Purandaradasaru, his ankita is after Lord Shri Krishna, as far as my knowledge goes.

purandara - both hands on the lower hip, in samapada (suggestive of the idol at pandharpur seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Panduranga.jpg)
other krishna/vishnu poses to indicate the manifestation of the same godhead can also be used (one example has been suggested in an earlier pose).

pasha - kapitta/tamrachuda
ankusha- kartarimukha (held upright)
