Re: korvai for rupaka talam
This is a vague request.
What is 'atcharam' ? Is it avartanam?
What is 'ennikai'?
Is this a korvai for singing kalpana swaram or for mrudangam?
If it is for kalpana swaram, what is the song. what is the raga and which part are you singing the swaram for?

For any rUpaka chApu thALam kOrvai, you can take and recite any Adhi thALam kOrvai (Putting rUpaka chApu) 3 times, and it will end in samam or whatever eduppu you want at the end of the third time.bala123 wrote:hello ! i want to know the method to do a korvai in rupaka chapu talam 3 atcharam

Dear Friend bala123,
Simple to understand -
8x3=24. So, any composition that sums up to a number that is divisible by either 8 or 3 will fit in rUpakam. Thus, any Adi tAla kOrvai would fit in rUpakam if played 3 times.

@semmu86 -> When are WE going to beat our heads and hands together ?????

But... Isn't the request for a korvais that will begin on Samum and end only on the chosen eddupu?
A much more difficult specification!

Re: korvai for rupaka talam
All this talk about the mathematical equivalence of rupaka tala and adi tala makes me ask this much asked question again.. Do Mridangists concern themselves about tala anga?

@bala123 and others,
Please see the thaniavarthanam in the link by Vid Kodunthirapully Parameswaran (disciple of Vid TK Murthy). Apart from some usual(but interesting) korvais, note the special khanda nadai padhathi for rupakam, which is quite unique and brilliant. I haven't heard such a detailed delineation of Rupakam anywhere else. He has played some Misra nadai too.

Re: korvai for rupaka talam
How did i miss this ?
There is a small logic behind composing Korvais for these particular Edam(s). The simple method is to compose a korvai with increasing mathrais between the 1st, 2nd and the third time.
To compose a Korvai :
Step 1 : Compose the porvangam with 1 Mathrai More than the Total Avarthanam
(If you want for 2 Avarthanam, compose for 2*12+1 , for 3 Avarthanam 3 * 12 +1 )
Step 2 : Compose the Uthrangam as follows
Step 2a : For first round it 3*5
Step 2b : For second round 3*5 + 1 + 3*5
Step 2c : For Third Round 3*5 + 2 + 3*5 + 2 + 3*5
Korvai Structure (Mathematical Structure) (Dots represents Karvai)
Round 1:
Poorvangam : 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... 0...
Uthrangam : 555
Total : 40
Round 2:
Poorvangam : 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... 0...
Uthrangam : 555.555
Total : 56
Round 3:
Poorvangam : 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... 0...
Uthrangam : 555..555..555
Total : 74
Sum : 40 + 56 + 74 = 170 (Mod with 12) you will get balance of 2, that is the Eduppu.
Korvai :
thakathina ... thakita ... Thaka ... Tha... Thangu
Thathikitathom Thathikitathom Thathikitathom
thakathina ... thakita ... Thaka ... Tha... Thangu
Thathikitathom Thathikitathom Thathikitathom .
Thathikitathom Thathikitathom Thathikitathom
thakathina ... thakita ... Thaka ... Tha... Thangu
Thathikitathom Thathikitathom Thathikitathom ..
Thathikitathom Thathikitathom Thathikitathom ..
Thathikitathom Thathikitathom Thathikitathom
More tricks, You can do "wonders on wonders" with the Odd numbers in Uthrangam part to place yourself on the correct place. Try it yourself.!
Note: Many people wont agree with these kind of calculations, even though the Korvai's Aestheic perspective is not lost.
Reason : The difference between the first, second, third round mathrais are not Proportional. In this korvai we get the output as 40+56+74 (in simple words the difference is 0,16,18).
I had enough Complicated / Never Ending arguments with my friends in this perspective and still i am not convinced (i don't buy this concept).
Surely this will given an idea about how to compose korvais for such Edams.

I'll leave the disagreements and debate to those qualified to undertake it, and just say thank you, both for the example, and the principles behind it

Hi
I went thru the koravi given by A J Sriram, though it has no progression (that is generally being followed by a musician) yet definitely i have to agree that it has a good structure.
It is a new dimension.
thank you AJS
