Beginner: How can I improve my sense of rhythm?

Post by musicloverrr »

I have started learning violin recently. Can someone tell me how to put "Adi Talam" using leg?

Should we tap the leg for all the eight notes?

Any tips to maintain tempo and develop sense of rhythm in instrumental music is much appreciated

when putting talam on leg we put only the laghu first beat bend toes for counting and then again put thalam by stroking foot for first beat of dritham / anudritham.

Try using a Talometer for some time to practice and you be able to follow the thalam.

Thanks a bunch! I have some doubts regarding metronome settings. How much should we set the bpm for third speed? I think for first and second we can keep 60 and 120 respectively.

You should keep your metronome to first-speed. For second speed, play two beats per tick, for third speed, play four. If you adjust your metronome, you will not be developing the ability to do this; you will be developing the metronome's laya, and not yours!
