Enna_Solven, I know the feeling. (A related rant - sometimes the same material is packaged differently and released multiple times. :( )

nick H, yes, FLAC is lossless compression - what Enna_Solven is lamenting is the fact that what went in was of poor quality.

Thanks gn.sn for that Gizmodo link and the associated commentary on mp3 bit rates. I agree having a lossless archive makes it workable with some future innovations. We are already seeing that with re-releases of some sixties and seventies albums where the final print at that time was optimized for listening on radio and poor quality mass audio equipment. Since they kept the original studio cut it in multi track and un-touched, they can now re-release them with a more aesthetic mixing method.

Nick,

I know flac is lossless; that is why I use that format. What I meant was that if flac shows such a low bit rate then there was no quality to start with in the original.

Watch out for Music Today's Sangeeta Kalanidhi series. Some are 'Maestro's Choice' repackaged.
