That'd be great...I'll be in town as always - I hope Prashant's offer of playing a tomato-receptacle still stands - I've been busy collecting suitably rotten specimens for the occasion!
The Kanjira vidwan is also on board. We still wait for our closet mrudangist to come out of his shell..hopefully we can also find a fiddler, failing which you will have the pleasure of listening to my masterfully crafted screeches...

Ah, a sanguine event, it promises to be!
Suggest that we do it on an afternoon so that we don't have to miss out on any performances. Preferably a weekend afternoon since those in Chennai will not have to skip work...15th sounds like a good date givevn Prashant's constraints...volunteers for venue anyone? My place is unfortunately too small and likely to be clogged with relatives at that time of the year...
Let's also see if we can get a quorum through a show of hands...errr posts...3 on board so far....

I initially read it as "YOU put them" but when I went to the map, you have already done it! Thanks again.
Now, for the guidance of our friends, if only we can put in autorickshaw fares from place to place, it will be great.
I paid Rs. 25 tonight to go from Narada Gana Sabha to Luz. It should really be Rs. 20 only but the auto was heading north and he had to travel a little bit extra before he could turn south so he wanted more money.
Luz (Sangeetha Residency) to MFAC, Gokhale Hall, Sastri Hall, Raga Sudha Hall is all walking distance, MFAC being the farthest. Both Narada Gana Sabha and Music Academy should be only Rs. 20 as is MFAC from those places.
If people can contribute the fares they usually pay, perhaps it will help our overseas visitors to establish a baseline for negotiations.
PS. If you would give us a tutorial on how to do this, I am sure we will all pitch in and fill in as much details as we can muster.

i usually prefer the MTC or Southern Railway to reach concert destinations and of course, my two legs. i dont usually get near the yellow scary three wheeler. hence, i cant give any guidelines on the same....harimau wrote:If people can contribute the fares they usually pay, perhaps it will help our overseas visitors to establish a baseline for negotiations.

I have just returned from Chennai...I paid Rs40 to woodlands ( therefore, MA) from Radha Silks in East mada street. Once I got this fare, I repeated this couple of times to Sankara hall and to NGS, though routes taken were slightly different. Hope this is of some guidance.

so I was not alone in taking an auto for crossing the road!arasi wrote:I can boast about paying the lowest auto fare. 15 Rs! The chief minister was passing by just when I came out of Nilgiris, and I paid the lowest fare--for what? To cross the road which at that moment was a nightmare in day light...

Arun, would be good to put a face to the name! That's 4 in all so far. I am afraid at this tage, it is looking like a kutcheri troupe rather than a bunch of rasikas!
Prashant we could always follow up Nedunuri's kutcheri with lunch at the Academy and settle down for your concert after having savoured those twin delights! Surely you couldn't ask for a better source of inspiration...

BHarath was just joking about the fiddle...if I am going to be on the fiddle, we might as well replace Prashanth with Tommy, who's been taking music lessons (along with the occasional biscuit) from me at the corner tea stall! I am willing to loan my fiddle though (after cleaning up all the accumulated dust)...
OK, 4 rasikas and 1 performer now...the ratio is looking good but the numbers aren't. And we still don't have a venue. If nothing else, we shall make use of the Academy premises...we can also borrow tomatoes from Arusuvai Natarajan!

Sounds like a great idea if you have the money to spend.
However

I wonder when mehendI became an experience of SI culture, and that too, a Royal one - it is as removed from 'marudANI' as kaDI is from mOrkuzhambu!which allows customers to really experience South Indian culture, from having mehendi on your hands

Ravi,
Don't forget that we are far away from current lingua. Just as most of the younger set prefer to eat uttarAdi fare and as mOR kuzhambu and kaDi are not on their menu, the old word marudANi (maRutOnRi--cut and come back shrub) is passe.
In the past, marudANi was applied simply, a circle in the palm, the finger tips 'capped' with the home-made fragrant ground leaf mix in the south. Even the male of the species were encouraged to get circles applied to the sole of their feet (thus invisible!) for its value of cooling down the system.
Today's mehandi, in most cases, is an extension of all the hoopla of big spending and flash, and a social statement at weddings...
Of course, the tour is devised for those from abroad who want to sample indian culture.
I bet Nick would agree that CM fans are better off choosing to buy their tickets for the concerts they want to attend, rather than be sheperded by the dictates of the organizers!
As for other tourists, I am sure this kind of a trip makes it easier and hassle-free...
