Thanks brother Ramaraj:
I did notice the svarAkSharas (not all of them) in your composition. I missed the clever weaving of the raga name in the kriti. Do please take time to post and highlight the subtle features of your compositions It will also help if you can scan and post the notations. In this composition I noticed that the starting pallavi line 'endan annayE..' is an ideal location for elaborate svara prastaaram. In fact this composition can be rendered as a major piece in a concert!
Do take your time and post and discuss your compositions one at a time. No need to hurry since there must be time for discussion/questions and learning. Our rasikas certainly will take note of them and bring them to the attention of performing artistes!
Thanks and GOOD LUCK brother Ramaraj!
Let us all have a wonderful CM experience!
This is not an idle quotation from the Bible. Great contributions must be brought to the attention of the Public for education and enjoyment. This is particularly true in the CM milieu. I remember the times when CM meant exclusively the Trinity! There were even those who sang exclusively Thyagaraja and who ridiculed MD as the one who simply strung up a few bahuvrIhis and tatpuruSha compounds more fit for a stotra than for Music. I was an observer of the efforts of SSI when he was attempting to bring into limelight the compositions of SvAti (and when nobody sang it he sang them himself and taught them!). We know were it not for Kalki we would never have heard of Tamil Thyagaraja! Still it is sad that artistes are clinging to hackneyed compositions in the name of 'paddhati' ignoring the efforts of inspired composers. (our own DRS is a case in point waiting to be 'unbushelled').
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matt. 5:14-16).

Review of Raji's renderings of KRamaraj's KRITIS Innisai paamalai
Sruthi Laya Bhava Nirathey" - Raji Gopalakrishnan
Invocation song on Ganapathi
Sri Ragavendra Sathguru- Sri
Begada- Sathgurunada Manam Irangatha – Murugan
Nasikabooshani (70the melakarta) – Sadhanandha Nilaye – Ambal
Priyadarshini (27th Melam Sarasangi) – Sannidhiye Sadha Vendinen – Ambal
Hari Amsaney – Rathipathipriya – Ayyappan
Keeravani- Raga Rasika Sironmani - Alamelumanga
Kamas- Annaye Nin Paadamae- Ambal
Adhimadhyantha Rahithey – Kathyayeni (20th Natabairavi)- Ambal
Vrittum – Karnaranjani, chalanattai
Unakku Inai Neeyae – Chalanattai – Barathamatha (patriotic song)
Raji Gopalakrishnan gave an inspiring performance exclusively singing compositions of K. Ramaraj. The objective of this concert was to popularize the vageyakara’s krithis, so I won’t net pick on the artist performance much. Though it took the artist 2 kirtis to warm up, she still gave a satisfying performance.

FOREWORD
9/6/2002
Annanagar, Chennai
The words "composer & composition" do not carry the same meaning in Indian and Western music. The Western composer is concerned primarily with absolute sounds and is not so with words. It is almost the reverse in India , where a composer is popularly called a "Saahitya Kartha"and not a "Sangeetha Kartha". His primary concern is with words which he would select and arrange in a particular order that would conform to the grammar that governs a "Krithi", a serious composition.
There have been and there are "composers" with command only over the words and not in music. Even the widely known "Rama Nataka Keerthanas" of Arunachala Kavi Raayar, were set to music not by himself, but by a pair of reputed musicians of his time. So are the Thiruppavais and other Tamil Hymns.
Time honoured musical texts were classified as that of " Uthama Vaggeyakara'sâ€

Dear Sri Ramaraj, do you have a better version of the audio for the composition "hari hara tanayuni - kharaharapriya" as the volume is low and there is a speed/sruthi (maybe because of the motor on the player) change in the recording. Also the lyrics in the recordings in pallavi are slightly different from http://www.karnatik.com/c3489.shtml
Please do not bother if it is not readily available. Very nice composition.

Ramraj Sir
Pranams. I was searching the lyrics of your compositions from carnatic.com (thanks to the list posted by Sri.Rajeshnat ,on your behalf, in this forum.)
I find that the raga for the kR^thi unniru padam tozhum varamum is given as varam. The Arohana-avarohana of this ragam
are similar to the popularly known raga varamu. So I would like to know which is the correct name of this raga ie varam or varamu.

Saarangam - The world of rasikas regrets to inform you that Sri Ramaraj is no longer with us. I think the rAgam you are seeking is varamu, but experts can answer you. If you need any further clarification about his compositions, you could get in touch with Smt. Raji Gopalakrishnan who is probably an acknowledged expert in his compositions.
