By the way, I am ready to write the sequel, if you recover the investment of Rs. 2ooo and give me 20 percent of the profit...
Who are the two folks mentioned here--psycho composers?
I don't talk of profit in this venture. You can take all the money collected and roll it over for the next production--Isaikkuyil II. Just hire me as the director. I promise to write one song on Murugan and one on Krishna. We will make the nAdaswaram vidwan go on a pilgrimage and make him play those songs!

You guessed it right! Our beloved CML and DRS assumed the roles of the above, in a micro play I wrote in one of the old threads...

What is going on eh? This thread is indeed comical!!!! Maybe, with the interest it's generating, we can bring out a "Movie Serial"!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone collated the various poems penned by cml sir? That indeed is also the work of a vaggeyakara!!! WE should start a thread for him too...

Cheers

Oh No! I can never be called a vaggeyakara! The only one among us is DRS and it is time that all of us promote his compositions and persuade him to share his expertise to promote a true 'understanding' and enjoyment of CM at this Forum. I am happy finally his talents are getting recognized with the award of the title Rasikapriya this evening! The other one is Arasi who indeed is a reincarnation of Ambujam Krishna whose creations should be brought to the attention of the CM world. Our Forum should be a focal point in bringing out the best from CM virtuosos. CM will flourish only when there is Rasika appreciation. It is fine to use this Forum for information exchange. And we are all lucky to have the infinite resources of Coolkarni and Lakshman who selflessly share their everything with us. The latest 'CM promotion' exercise started by coolkarni is a great service and I am immensely pleased to see the enthusiastic participation by a number of our youngsters. There is also a variety of hidden talent among us (such as MNS, Sumati, Ramakriya, Arun, Mohan, vgovindan, Subramanian, Meena, Shankar, ...(the list is indeed long!)) and if we tap all these resources and encourage them no doubt Our Forum will be the centre of CM activity in the cyber space. Let each of us bring and contribute our talent sincerely to thie Forum. Indeed many a trickle will become a mickle!

I hope it takes a long time for the bucket to fill!

No, I never wrote any song for professional publication (not even in chennaionline). I take liberties here in a few amaturish attempts. The chennaionline articles were all on Thamizh songs of various composers (just appreciative review artciles).

there is no dearth of composers as far as the forum is concerned. here is my composition on Venkatramana Swami (with due regards to composers and rasikas):
Ragam: Saranga Thalam: adi

pangaja charana pannaga sayana

anupallavi

seshachala sthala nithya vilasa
nirmala bhaktha hrudhaya nivasa

charanam

nithyothsava sumangala roopa
nithya jathi malli vagula barana
thanthra sashthra thathva anantha
aswatha narayana poojitha vinutha

Congratulations, chalanata! A fellow forumite called me 'rahasya arasi' when it was known that I was a vaggeyakara.
Another composer in our midst, coming out of the closet!
Though I am not worthy of commenting on a sanskrit song, I can make a guess of the mudra (part of it?). Is your name Narayanan?

thanks arasi. i know it is like a citibank loan. first a gentleman with a tie and a smile comes; in the last dawood ibrahim comes. in our forum also it starts with an applause; later it becomes a nightmare! to the other rasikas who are sharpening their 'nails', let me make it loud and clear; i do not know sanskrit.
arasi, my sarma name is narayanan. ( what you say for abivatham)

Cogratulations chalanata!
That is the spirit we want. Though there are transliteration errors in your lyric it is essentially OK from the sanskrit perspective. You cannot go wrong when you use the Lord's name!

I have taken two liberties with your lyric; the first is that the ragam I picked is BrindavanaSaranga and the next is that thaaLam is rUpakam as well as the addition of a viruttam! I could have added a madhyama kaalam to it but I did not want to modify your creation. Now here is my humble rendition

You have to make allowance for my age as well as lack of accompaniments but I have tried to capture the bhaavam!

I recommend this to other Rasikas in our Forum who are more musically accomplished.

cmloverji, its common to say SrInivAsa krupa kaTakSa siddhirastu. Blessings from perumAL without the blessings of thAyAr is a strict no no. :-)

Question for the music experts out there: in this video at around 3:18 - 3:22 it seemed KRV deviated from the ragam he was playing. Am I correct in my assessment?

Jayaram,

He is playing raghunAyaka of tyAgaraja in hamsadhwani (oh! again - Is it a V or W :P) and between 3:18 to 3:22 I do not see any change in the rAga?

I was not sure whether you were refering to the first part or the second. Either case there was no rAga switch.

-Ramakriya

Disclaimer: I do not claim to be an expert , and whatever I got were audio tracks, no video in there!

I had no idea my word carried so much weight here! :P

Ramakriya., you might need to update your codecs. Try playing it with Real Player (It works fine on my Mac and I get to see the "traffic light" in full glory!)

It's not too BAD a rendition, but nothing really fantastic. He does botch a few places though (about 2 minutes into the first and about the same time in the second).
