Of course, I am familiar with the vocalist and mridangist. Upa pakka vAdyam?
The violinist looks like the sweet Bangalore medical graduate (turned full-time violinist (fusion too), residing in the UK. I can't really tell by the profile in this picture.

ha.ha. yes.. Little warmer weather here, unusual.. probably not so near you. I am sure it will come.

Rajesh, I am not in Chennai. I really wish I am there. Taking in all the season vibe from your reviews and comments.

Watching the lec dems when time permits. Excellent so far.

Paravoor Gopakumar as listed in the Nalli handbook. Credit missing in the Chennai event site.

Dr. Jyotsna it is. Really showcased her virtuosity and speed in her playing today.

She could not get concerts in UK. So she set up her own organisation! And started her own band.

A sweet woman. I have heard Jyothsna play the violin as a youngster in Bengaluru. Interesting. For one of our house concerts there, I asked her if she could play. She very much wanted to, but had an interview in Chennai that very day, this fresh out of the medical school doctor. Soon, she got married and accompanied her husband who worked in the UK.The rest we all know. I haven't met her in ages. Her pleasing personality stays still fresh in my memory.

Ah, there you go, Sureshvv. Bringing S.Rajam and Koteeswara Iyer and his composition. On top of it, a rare phenomenon on Rasikas these days: a review of Sanjay Subrahmanyan's concert--well, meaningful musings of one, at least.

'sAmi, tiruvArUr rAmasAmi dIkshita kumAra', a salute in the anu pallavi and then the charanam describing MD's merits--all in sweet dEvamanohari--couldn't have been better wrought than by kavi kunjara dasan.

Wish I had heard that SankarAbharaNam. A few previously sung ones are still fresh in my memory.

Varadu Varadu tAn (Varadu is just Varadu). Neyveli V maTTum enna? (when it comes to that, he is equally so). Troopers all...

Amazing concert in progress
Started with the slokam "Sathguru gajaasya vani" which I have kind of by hearted after listening to all the students of the school start their program with it. And V. Sriram announced on the lec-dem yesterday that the lyric was composed by the Sangeetha Kalanidhi elect R.K.Sriramkumar.

Viriboni varnam follows. Best I have heard this varnam live was from Nisha Rajagopal as part of her 4 hour concert for Sarvani Sangeetha Sabha at Raga Sudha hall. No sign of it on YouTube.

Missed the 1st two items in my live report.

2. Dayajuda samayamide, jaganmohini, swaras with multiple eduppus testing if accompanist is paying attention.

3. Begada alapana, Flash of brilliance from violinist as she ends alapana making rasikas sit up and notice.
Thyagarajaya namaste, Neraval at Yogiswara manasa samyukta. Wondering how muni pakshi mrga kitaadi would have sounded. Has anyone taken this line up?

4. Haunting sloka, manah? kanchipura mani vipanchi, pièce de résistance of this concert. You should tune in just for this.
What a set up for Neerajakshi Kamakshi. This kriti is fast becoming a turning point in many concerts I am at of late. Has created quite a stir in the online YouTube chat too. Mandra sthayi creating chills.

5. Sarasa samadana, kapi narayani, n @ hitamu

6. kapi main, inta sowkyamani,

7.

I met her at a Temple concert in South London: she was accompanying TVG.

Her home was in Ilford, and people knew that I lived only a mile or so away, so I was asked to drive her home. She was happy to have accompanied her husband, but distressed that she could not get concert opportunities. That was 20-plus years ago. As I mentioned, she made her own opportunities, and seems to have been doing well in the various genres ever since.

I don't know if she is still resident in UK. I have been seeing her name for Bangalore programs. But my email tells me that her organisation, Druv Arts, is still presenting festivals in UK.

ns @ rajitha amarapala

Nice to see a young singer get her due recognition. Especially as someone who recognized her potential many moons ago.

Pretty quick 45 minutes
