I am delighted to present a 1935 Columbia Label 78 RPM recording of D. K. Pattammal. Papanasam Sivan and Pattammal were known for their Tamil songs - Prarathpara Prameshvara (Raga Vachaspathi, Adi Tala) is one such Tamil Krithi. Though there were compositions earlier, Prarathpara Prameshvara became a popular krithi in Vachaspathi ragam.
DKP starts with the brief sketch of Vachaspati ragam and goes on to render the Krithi. The brief sketch of the raga brings out the essential proyogas beautifully and the way Pattammal sang, bares the stamp of authenticity, as she directly learnt these compositions from the composer himself.

DKP's association with the Composer -
It began in 1933 when her father Krishnaswami Dikshitar, having moved with family to Madras, approached Sivan to teach her. Her brother Jayaraman joined the tutelage four years later and the learning continued till the composer’s passing in 1972. She, along with S Rajam, appears to have had the longest association with him as a disciple.

More than Guru - Shishya bhavam, Sivan and Pattammal were Father - daughter duo. DKP is know for having great reportire of his popular krithis, patriotic and film songs.
The very first composition that DKP & DKJ learnt from Sivan is Kapali in 1934. From then on DKP continued to popularise his name by cutting records of his compositions, singing entirely his compositions in in a concert organized for Sivan's 60 years in 1950, singing his compositions in various live kutcheris and recording a thematic CD of Papanasam Sivan's compositions in 1996. There was much of Sivan in Pattammal herself.
