Dear brother-member, srisairamesh, I have brought out a MP3 CD containing 9 ½ hrs material pertaining to Karnataka music exercises from the primary level upto Varnas including different Laya exercises etc., to be useful to the people like you. You can get my details from the profiles of this forum. If you can send somebody I shall give a copy of that (cost US $1/- only). When I have referred the Atlas for Trinidad I have found it is in six places, Bolivia, Colarado,Cuba, Uruguay, Argentina & West Indies. If you make it clear where do you exactly reside, if possible, I shall try to find a way to send it to you. If not, you can contact the e-mail address ‘chandra125@hotmail.com’ and request him to arrange for the downloading of a copy of this CD for you. With best wishes, amsharma.

It is my understanding when somebody says they are from Trinidad (without mentioning the country like Bolivia or Columbia), they refer to the nation of Trinidad and Tobago, with Trinidad being the largest island (among the 23 islands that constitute that nation). It is northeast of Venezuela and south of Granada in the region known as Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean region. That country played soccer in the world cup 2006 (while India could not qualify)--of course lost in the early rounds.

msakella:
It is a commendable gesture on your part to offer such valuable lessons CD for just a dollar (perhaps it is even less than the cost of production). Hats off to you!

Dear brother-members, mahakavi & arasi, I feel that I am very poor even in the knowledge of music leave alone the geography. But, fortunately enough, you do not know my draw-backs by which I am saved. Please don’t laugh at me!!!
Thank you for your nice comments. As the Alimighty had very kindly blessed me with what I possess now I am able to serve our brothere and sisters. More over, I do not want to insist upon paying even this amount. If they are really benefited by that I give it free of charges and I remain exrtremely happy by this. In my 30s when I was eagerly searching for knowledge many Vidwans did not reveal much. In spite of all this, I have fully been blessed by the Almighty and, now, I am better than many of our Vidwans. So, I wish the aspirants of our Karnataka music must be fed with as much as we can. Along with all other people like you I am also able to do the part of my service to the cause of our Music. That’all. Thanking you once again, amsharma.

Your acts of kindness are appreciated, msakella. You volunteer to offer your knowledge to the young and eager learners even though you came across vidwAns who were not forthcoming in teaching you when you were young.
Though I am not gender biased, I prefer being called 'sister' than brother :)

You mean, because I am the female of the species, or because you know his age (and mine)?

Dear brothers and sisters, young and younger:

I collected the MP3 CD from a friend/disciple of Shri. A.M. Sharma when I was in India recently. Sharmaji had asked me to upload the contents online for the benefit of all. I am working on that. It is fairly huge, 638 Meg. Also, I want to upload it to a permanent place rather than the temporary file sharing locations like sendspace, rapidshare etc. A few things I have in mind are email accounts like gmail or groups like google groups. I have not checked into any size limitations of google groups. If I can upload 638 meg, I will create a google group for this and upload there.

If any of you have other suggestions on permanent upload locations, please share.

Since the issue of cost came in for discussion, I want to mention that Sharmaji wants to upload this for free access and download by everybody. I have expressed my thought to him that for those who want to make a voluntary guru dhakshina, I will provide some contact information for that purpose. Sharmaji has agreed to that as long it is 100% voluntary.

I will post more details to this thread.

Thanks, younger brother, though you are young enough to be my son :) So, you have been busy working away. Wondered whether the freezing weather in North America had something to do with delayed spring cuckoo sounds!

I played around with google groups a little bit.

a) Each group has a maximum file limit of 100 meg. I need to upload the full content to 7 different google groups. But that should be OK. I will make them public groups, so one need not even have to sign into google groups.

b) A bigger problem is that each file can not be more than 10 Meg. 61 files for a total size of 220 meg come under this limit. Rest of the files are above 10 meg.

I can split those files using a file splitter but I am a bit hesitant. It is not user friendly and members need to know how to put them back together without making any mistakes. The biggest file is around 35 Meg, so the maximum split of an individual file will be into 4 parts. I can provide the tool and the merge instructions but it can still be confusing to many lay computer users. Of course one need not necessarily have to put the pieces back together, they can listen to the split parts one after the other. I will use the split option as a method of last resort.

If any of you have suggestions for a better free permanent location, please post.

I have arrived at an acceptable solution for the 10 meg file size limit. I found out that the files on the CD are encoded at a very high bit rate. I will re-encode them at a lower bit rate so that the file size is less than 10meg and then upload. My experiment with lower bit rate encoding of one of these files did not produce any noticable degradation in quality.

Stay tuned for google group information for downloading the files.

Why not just upload them on sangeethapriya/sangeethamshare? Those sites are more or less permanent, and can be accessed by all. This is also easier than google groups.

Thanks for that idea, Gumki. I am almost done uploading to Google groups. Let us see how that works out. I will post the details soon.

Dear brother & sister-members, (Chi.) arasi, I may be younger or elder but many of you cannot compete with me either in height or weight as I am of 5’-11â€

I have created a separate thread for Sharmaji's MP3 cd and I have provided the google groups links for downloading the files. Please use that thread for any further discusssion relating to the CD. http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2515
