Awards

Post by vsn69 »

I am Smt Rajam Pushpavanam's son and grandson of Madurai Pushpavanam Iyer.
How can awards to be set up in their name?
I request suggestions from members here.
Thank you

Best bet is to work with parivadini series or institute as part of a sabha - kEdAram or music circle or Madhuradhwani or BGS Trust - in discussion with the conveners; and make it an annual award.

Or institute this as part of one more prize as part of MA season; or for best visibility make it an award along with the Jaya TV Mahotsavam or the other mArgazhi mahOtsavam.

I have donated to Bharat Kalachar; to start with TVS will select a youngster to receive an award. This will be done every year.

Fantastic! Unlike many, you’ve walked the talk! Congratulations and best wishes to the (future) recipients of the award!

Thank you. I wish to add donation more later.
And it's for honouring them; not for myself.

Thank you Sri Thanjavooran.

I shall look for more sabhas where awards can be presented. This is a very small token of gratitude for a great lady who sacrificed her career, life for her children.

Congratulations to the young artist! And a shout-out to the family (vsn69) for instituting these awards.

Congratulations to Sooryagayathri

But is she a carnatic singer? - I thought she is more into devotional type music than mainstream carnatic music

I am not asking this to demean the awardee or the award - just a general question because the award reads 'carnatic music' - so asking this

Best wishes to Sooryagayathri

Also I didn't know that actress Sheela ( Chemeen) was a danseuse as well
Came as a total surpise that she gets a Natya award
What does she practise? Bharathanatyam or Kuchipudi (which has found a lot of fandom in Kerala after actress Manju Warrier took it up)

Not sure how these awards are given
Kruthi Bhat, also a young artiste is singing so well and has been giving so many carnatic concerts as well. She is student of S Sowmya and Neyveli
But she does not have any studio recordings or youtube followers - maybe that's what it takes these days to garner awards over knowledge/skill

Maybe then it is not about Dance even though its called Natya - shd be called Nataka or something like that - then makes more sense for awarding cine artistes

That's because you are interpreting the word "nATya" in a very narrow manner. nATya refers to 'story telling', which includes music, dance, dramaturgy, and literature (the traditional iyal, isai, nATakam). So, I think the nomenclature for the award does make perfect sense.

Thanks I really didn't know that
Now I understand that Nadana is a subset of Natyam

Well done Sir , Hope it is ok for you to also tell the awardee name. He /she could be the next Abhishek Raghuram or Sriranjani Santhanagopalan etal .....If there are constraints in disclosing names say if the school or parents prefer not to ,please skip the request

The parents do not wish their child's name be published.
