The Violin concert of Vidwan Sri TKV Ramanujacharyulu and his disciple Srutiranjani on 21 Aug 2022 for Madhuradhwani at Arkay Convention Centre, Chennai, was a scholarly and enjoyable one rooted in tradition.

The majestic Kamboji Ata Tala Varnam gave a grand start.
Next was ShobilluSaptaswara (Jaganmohini) which was played with utmost fidelity to the Sahityabhava. Anupallavi 'Naabhee hrth kanta rasana' was opened at saman of the Taala that imparted the full import of the content.
Playing swaras in first speed (keezhkaalam) gave a grandeur to the raga. Rendaam kaala swaras were equally smooth and enjoyable. (Swaras were finely framed at Pallavi for _Shobhillu_ instead of _Saptaswara_ which is today's trend!) The _poruttham_ swaras and the simple korvai were enjoyable.

Vinanasakoni _(pratapavarali)_ was a rare selection and played with absolute loyalty to its 'grammar'. As well known, this is a delicate, challenging raga which can 'derail' to allied scales if not properly handled!

Next, the sishyaa Srutiranjani played an aalaap of Khamas finely. It was nice to see the guru supporting the disciple in the raga essay in the initial part and leading the fast passages later.
Santhana gopala krishnam was the kriti that followed.

Arutiranjani, the senior disciple of Ramanujacharyulu holds a big promise.

Bantureeti (Hamsanadam) with a brief alapana and the _shadsruti dhaivata_ 'touch' in the kriti was nice. Only the kritis were rendered for Khamas and Hamsanadam.

Samajavarada (suddhasaveri) in sharp contrast after a pratimadhyanam kriti came in next. Swaraprasthara with attractive links for eduppu-s at the Pallavi was fine. The kriti was wound up at the upper shadja which was unique and attractive.

The main presentation of the concert, Todi was superb. A pure and authentic presentation. The mandrasthaayi prayogas in the alapana were good.

Koluvamaregadaa was rendered with the right kaalapramaanam. Swaras at the Charana passage Tambura chekoni were natural and with a fine kurraippu with nice phrases and sancharas capped with a fine korvai.

Aravind Ranganathan and Rajaganesh rendered a very good Tani with fine eduppus and a thrilling korvai and Teermaanam at the end. Their accompaniment for all kritis was also nice.

The brindavanasaranga masterpiece of Dikshitar - Ramgapuravihara- which followed was just serene, reminding of MSS's celebrated rendering.

Behaag (Kandudhanya) was replete with all niceties of the composition.

I was hearing the ragamalika (Baro krishnayya) in an instrumental concert after a long interval. So refreshing.

The Mohana Kalyani Tillana of Mysore Vasudevachar was played next. (This seems to be 'older' than Lalgudi's celebrated composition in the same raga). I have not heard this rare Tillana before.
The concert concluded with Mangalam.

The concert was a proof that chaste music always inspire to concentrate on the classical values.

Sri Ramanujacharyulu is among the few who views and handles music in the right perspective.

Arkay Ramakrishnan deserves accolades for presenting artists and events of merit.
The audio balancing and online streaming were excellent.

TKV Ramanujacharyulu possibly being stationed at Trichy is a reason that we do not hear him often I am assuming he is still in trichy. Around the time of sangeetham i first came to know of him when he was featured with few prime artists. It is so rare to hear a rare artist to be featured in a rarer violin solo concert. SRK great review after a long time , please keep them coming.

Thanks Rajeshnat for your remarks.
Yes, Sri TKVR is settled in Srirangam (Trichy)and after retirement from AIR, he is into teaching of music. He plays at Chennai perhaps more during the December season.
