Shout out to Sashikiran (carnatica) and Parthasarathi Sabha

We have to always note the oldest Sabha and perhaps one new age Sabha to collaborate. Particularly Shashikiran finding venue and organising concert shows his extraordinary tenacity to that extent he is bit of antha Kaalathu musical organizer . He comes up with a theme of selecting the 4 southern languages with some name and has lined up concerts for next 3 days . Post this concert Amritha Murali sang , I had to skip as I had work at 8pm. Today I see in the paper a first concert at 3 15 , where a junior artist Sruthi Sankar is taking 2 languages , then kalyanapuram Aravind at 5 pm toking 2 languages and Suryaprakash taking 2 languages at 7pm. ON Sunday I think I saw Rithvik raja and one more artist whose name slips me . The tenacity to even start at 3 and go upto 9 to invite artist is very very important ,that is the only way we can encourage the talent who knows Sruthi Sankar may turn out to be the next MLV. I will not attend either Saturday or Sunday as I have family commitment . If some one reports that would be great

The hall is kind of ground floor Sastri hall of 1980s . Lot of vehicular noise and also acoustics is just okay. But hey why do you need great acoustics when the music itself is CM. At 5 pm as I entered Sashi was talking to a dozen in the audience I did not catch what he said , I heard him explaining the theme. At around 5 pm plus when the sisters with the two co artists were finally giving thumbs up sign to start the concert .At that time, I was observing two ceiling fans more giving air to NCB and BAK. No fans for the sisters , it was sultry for sure and the heat is partly oppressive . When the two A’s were about to hum and launch the Bhairavi , the power went out . O gosh the furnace was unbearable and the heat is way too unbearable . The artists were thinking let the power come back . 10 mins gone I was about to suggest to them start without power, but power came in just on time . Anahita Apoorva NCB and BAK showed no sign of frustration and they took in their stride. Anahita explained she is going to take up pre trinity Telugu and modern Kannada as their combo. Special shout out for their attitude of stoicism.

The brief alapana of the most majestic Bhairavi was soothing , I guessed the varnam which was surely a sitter . Viriboni was a great boney , nice start. With NCB finding clean patterns with minimalist play by BAK. Apoorva took the Mohanakalyani alapana and she did well , 2 concerts back I felt she has to catch up a lot with anahita , but now she has caught up very well. With anahita announcing modern composer as HMB and with Mohanakalyani , I was only thinking post alapana with violin return the krithii bhuvaneshwari and I was only thinking Maharajapuram Santhanam.

Both the sisters kept up the right pace and I thoroughly enjoyed their mohanakalyani krithi rendition . They pronounce the words right and both of them blended well and the relaxed Mohanakalyani was sung very well with extreme madhayamakala sangathis with a lot of santhanamish sangathis. Bit Laya kanakku in swaras was well done and both of them kept up very well the muse of mohanakalyyani and kept swaras as an extended bhuvaneshwariya typecast.

The next ramajogi in khamas was just ok , their rendition did not match either the previous excellence of submain or the main that followed . The krithi rendition was just ok with the alapana being sketchy . Alapana was bit better than the krithi. Anahita is bit like Gayatri of RAGA Sisters , I liked her alapana in shanmughapriya , every Sangathi had asaatya sowkhyam-power intesect . The meditative hues and with few brigas bit of shanmughapriya bit reminded atleast to me the pratimadhyamam specialist Tanjore S kalyanaraman typecast of Shanmughapriya . It was not say like Madurai Somu with more power or say Santhanam with more emote shanmughapriya . They announced their guru Chitraveena Ravikiran is the composer and the Kannada composition is dedicated to Chenna Kesava Krishna of Belur. I did not get the first line at all , had to google to get the starting line . The sisters showed their class in neraval and also swaras both balanced and to the point .

IN the tukkadas the ultra drag padham was a gowlipantu tarunam eedammma in slow motion and the more populist yamunakalyani must have made the small crowd happier. I am not a big fan of this navarathri Sundal krithi of bhavayami gopalAbalam Krithi that too the second half which is bit more filmish , but all said they sang as laid out by say ms amma post the copper plate discovery.

BAK played well with essence but his violin tone was not that great , may be the strings got excessively strained because of summer heat . NCB had to play the next concert of Amritha Murali , he kept his energy balanced and I am not complaining at all for his reduced tani.

Anahita correctly synergises power and emote . Apoorva does well in alapana and also krithi ,but in swaras she comes out little excessive with a bit of more notes where at times the Shruthi fidelity is bit work in progress. I am assuming this will go away . As I googled to find the first line of the main Kristi, I could spot Chitravina Ravikiran has phenomenally composed lot of krithis in all languages and also has covered lot of dieties . I certainly did not understand even one word of Kannada in the main krithi, there were not even some popular cliche words of Kannada . Hopefully I hear an exclusive thamizh concert of exclusive Ravikiran compositions soon who is surely a fabulous composer.

Hope some one else reports other concerts of Baasha vaibhavam.

Overall a very good to excellent concert for 1 hour and 50 mins
