it started with ta-taiyya-tatta-tam

I usually associate tA taiyyA tat tat tAm with a Sabdam, especially if it was in kAmbhOji, not a tillAnA.

Apparently - in ancient times, Sabdams were in kAmbhOji, but later, they were set to a rAgamAlikA, with kAmbhOji as the first - can someone expand on this more? More recently, Madurai Sri N. Krishnan has composed Sabdams without using kAmbhOji. I have to say that I love the traditional start to a Sabdam with the mEl sthAyi kAmbhOji phrases...
