I once heard Manda Sudharani in the 1994 Radio Sangeet Sammelan. There was a superb Shankarabharanam (Dikshitar's Dakshinamurthe) and Amritavarshini (HMB's Sudhamayee). She also sang Vararagalaya (Chenchukambhoji) with swaras. I have never heard anybody do any manodharma in this ragam. It is a vakra raga with not much scope for elaboration. Every item seems effortless with her rendition even if it is a complex pallavi. Extreme vidwat. Found her website in google recently.
http://www.mandasudharani.com/

Site doesn't seem very up-to-date, but has a lot of info about her.

Does anybody have any recordings of hers or experiences with her concerts?

I have heard Smt Sudharani on a few occasions in madras at 3 places, viz., nAdOpAsanA, Music Club IIT Madras, Nanganallur Anjaneya Temple.

I have to say that her voice has perfect alignment to sruthi. Her ideas are very good and her grip over layam is also rather good.

She is called Pallavi Sudharani.

ShatkAla Pallavis (pallavi in 6 kAlams)
sankIrNa naDai pallavi
dvi rAgam pallavis
dvi kAla pallavis
rAgamAlikA pallavis

she is a master in all of them.

Not just that, her AlApanais even in rare rAgams and rAgams termed scopeless are just too good. The svarams and the poruttam to sAhityam are good also.

Be it tOdi or kAmbhOji or bEhAg or kAntAmaNi, her essays are equally good.

a frnd of mine always recollects her elaborations of raghupriyA and supOshini.

Rajesh, thanks for the link.
Manda Sudharani is truly a great vidushi. The points she makes are full of wisdom and deep understanding of our great musical form.
In addition to your quote, the other one I liked was: "Over-exposure of youngsters will only have an adverse effect."
So true. I hope serious youngsters stay away from those 'Idol' circuses that are fast becoming the norm today.

Fabulous singer! What command. May I say, she is one of the rarest gems of carnatic music.
I have heard her sing a krithi in Raga Niroshta, never heard anything like that before!

Thank you aditto, one thing that comes very naturally to this vidushi is that her brighas remain rooted in classicism . One thing that I immensely like about these callibre of musicians is they are adjusting impromptu with a violinist or mrudangist who are not big stars and they still add their immense excellence .NO idea about Morrisville accompanists.

I will personally not give that much of credit to those vocalist who keep 90% of time only high quality and well conditioned accompanist , their quality will get exposed if they have some one else of course that will not happen in live experience as mostly they play with quality and well conditioned accompanist. To that extent sudharani is really a great star , a real manda without any banda. :-*

I enjoyed her hamsanandi pallavi, not yet heard ramanee samanevaru. If i can add with my limited knowledge about her, one of her manaseega guru should be TRS , the late professor TRS has personally told few good things about her to me.When she sings telugu krithis the trs is surely within her or possibly her guru ivaturi ??? (forgot his name)must have polished her even as a junior .

In the last concert that i heard a week back she looks a bit like SP shylaja (sister of SPB), but however the voice throw is somewhat like vani jayaram with a little husky voice(I adore vani jayaram for her voice).

Also in another links her shanmughapriya rtp is topnotch.Heat that in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZGBqSuYwLk and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkX6lP7TO-4 .

Yes Rajeshnath garu. A real manda without any banda :) Nicely phrased.

Her guru is Sri Ivaturi Vijayeswara Rao Garu.

A link to Manasa Mana Samarthyamemi with her guru on Violin.

Can you please share what TRS mentioned about Sudharani garu?

The violinist in the RTP Shanmukhapriya video is Sri M.S.N.Murthy garu, husband of Pantula Rama garu :)

Another link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsbE67ywC8g - Chenchu Khambodi !! :)

#27 Varsha, gem of a rendering. The way she has elaborated so soulfully a rare raga speaks of her high vidwat.
Thanks Varsha for sharing. (The swara rendering abruptly stops at 14.38 min and its blank thereafter. Just for information)

# 30 Thanks Aditto.

# Varsha- While Saveri did certainly made up, Aditto brought out the rediscovered piece. Pl do listen to the complete swara rendering. I found it be 'class' apart, so much saukhyam in all aspects her music.
