Flute: N. Ramani

Post by cpblog »

Dear Rasikas, Didn't find a label for Dr. Ramani; so I started this to invite you all to an old concert of Dr. Ramani (one among his several performances) at "Parvathi", Mysore, April 17, 1973. Accompanying are Vidwan M. Chandrasekharan (Violin); Vidwan Vellore Ramabhadran (Mridangam); Vidwan K.S Manjunath (Ghatam). http://chowdaiahandparvati.blogspot.com/

The kalyANi ragam Ramani plays in this concert is stupendous and I urge all rasikas to listen to this concert. The torrent of sangathis in the tara sthayi are just breath taking and the mandra sthayi phrases towards the conclusion around the nishAdam are extremely beautiful.

That is indeed quite an energetic Vaasudevayani . I enjoyed listening to that very much. Thanks bilahari for pointing that out. And of course our thanks to cpblog and the Parvathi team for releasing these gems along with nice write-ups and anecdotes.

BTW, the caption near the photo labels the violinist as Alagiriswamy where as down below near the song it says M. Chandrasekharan. The vionilist was equally good, I especially liked the violinist's kalayni alapana.

Those who have not been checking out the Parvathi archive site at http://chowdaiahandparvati.blogspot.com/ , I recommend you do that. You get to hear some great music.

Dear Bilahari and Vasanthakokilam,

Sorry, 'tempos fugits', and we sometimes feel a tad slower within our mortal frames. Nevertheless, the heritage must go on and we too must not loose sight of your kind and gracious words. Thank you and best wishes to all of you in this splendid forum.

BTW, the photo of Ramani accompanied by Algiriswamy is from a 1970 concert. The music posted is from a different concert performed in 1973. The mridanga vidwans are also different. Photo shows UKS, while in the music it is Ramabhadran.

Trying to remember ...

Had my American-visitor contingent in tow, so didn't take enough notice of who else was around.
