tone in electronic sruthi box

can some one explain what is the role of "TONE" in an electronic sruthi box
I have a radel sruthi box and I see this option there.
when am I suppose to use it? what is it enhancing?

The tone in the Radel electronic tambura (not sruti box - that is diffferent! :) ) relates simply to the bass-treble balance. Increasing the tone by pressing the 'up' button increases the treble and makes it sound sharper, brings out the jeevalam more prominently, pressing the 'down' button on the tone makes the bass more prominent and gives a mellow sound. Try it and you will hear the difference.

I am curious if you have ANALYSED the Sub & Super Harmonics produced by your electronic Thamburas & compared them with the conventional Thamburas of M.S.S./MMI & K.V.N.? VKV
