Rasayana Concert Feb 25th 2012

Post by rajumds »

We are pleased to invite you all for a Sitar Concert by
Ms Anupama Bhagwath on Saturday , the 25th of February .
She will be accompanied on the Tabla by by Gurumurthy Vaidya

Venue : Ambalam - Kalaksetra Colony
Time : 6 PM
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Considerable thought has gone into organising this event , in the light of full length HM Concerts becoming a rarity in Chennai . The attempt is to go beyond the the "One Main Raga And two / three lighter pieces in 90 minute" formats .
The evening promises to be a relaxed and conservative Hindusthani concert where the artist will try and reach out to the audience, to sensitise us to the finer nuances of Sitar Playing .

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible .
Admission to the the concert is free and the concert is sponsored by the Rasayana bunch of rasikas.

Gentle reminder for Saturdays Concert :

Venue: Ambalam, Yamuna Street, Besant Nagar, Chennai
Sabha: Ambalam & Rasayana
Rajesh can help with the google map directions , if possible . The location is very close to the junction where the roads from the Besantnagar Bus Stand ,and from the Church and Vannandurai Road , meet .

Artist : Mrs Anupama Bhagwat - Hindusthani - Sitar
Gurumurthy Vaidya of Bangalore - Tabla

Timings : 6pm to 8.30pm
Coffee/ Tea will be served at 5.30PM

Members are requested to attend with family and friends . Entrance is free
Rasayana Team wishes to thank all its supporters in conducting this series , which is around the 30 concert mark . In a very warm gesture , the artist we featured first - TV Ramprasadh - has offered to host all our events . The Hall is a small , cute one , which can seat about hundred people and, is in a very silent zone . It shares a compound wall with Kalakshetra . Every effort is being made to handle the mike related issues to the satisfaction of the audience . Since we intend moving towards Veena and similar instruments (and delicate singers too ) , these sound related aspects are being assessed . So folks , please do feel Welcome . The attendance will be a major factor in steeling ourselves to cover a wide section of artists who are inadequately represented in the normal scheme of things .
--------
The artist of the evening is someone who is beginning to evince a lot of interest in the Carnatic Style of Music and the needs of south Indian Audience . The concert will be a chaste 2 1/2 hour full length version in typical HM style .
The recording of the concert will be made available after getting the permission of the artists .
We Welcome you all , once again .
A silent Thanks to all our Silent Sponsors .
Rasayana Team

That would be appreciated --- or even just driving directions would be a help, as I couldn't see the road name on Google Maps

Directions
1. Starting from Besantnagar Bus Stop - Move towards kalakshetra - at junction -1- road at left will go to church - road at right will go to LB Road - Keep straight instead , at the junction . Keep straight.. until you hit a dead end . You will pass the busy road that leads to Kalakshetra on the right . After hitting dead end ,turn right , First left , First Right Dead end . You will be at Ambalam .
Car Owners - After hitting Dead end - turn Right - You will see lot of empty spaces for parking . Park the car and walk the last leg .
2.Starting from Thiruvanmiyur , Take the Kalakshetra Road near Jayanthi Theatre , Drive right down to the Kalkshetra Gate , take left and right to enter Besantnagar . At the end you will reah a junction where the road approaches from Church at the left . Take right , hit dead end .
3. At the last Dead end one can see a board on the tree - much on the lines of the opening scenes of the movie - School for Scoundrels -
Just keep looking at the fingers on these boards and you should be at Ambalam.
4.Do not confuse this place with another Ambalam inside the Kalkshetra campus , or with a health spa on besantnagar beach :)

NickH:
1.When you come from LB Road you first take a right (7th avenue)that cuts thru Besant nagar (the bus road where you have stops like vannanthurai- RBI Quarters etc), that road hits at the bay of bengal , donot go that far with your car  .

2.Instead there is a fairly big intersection , the left leads you to the besant nagar bus terminus , the right is the road that you have to take(Just before the church ).Take right

2. After you take the right which I think is Tiger VaradAchariar Road or colloqially people just say kalakshetra road(nobody knows about tiger varadAchariar road there) , that road is a straight and fairly broad road , atleast travel 1 to 2 kms, you travel till the dead end , where you either have to take left or right.

3.At this point you take a right , if you take a left you will hit arupadaiveedu temple, but take the right

4.Then take the first left

5.Then take the first right. You will find his house sharing the compound wall with kalAkshetra , very nice place , the sound setting is wonderful.

If you are lost any where try asking directions to the arupadaiveedu murugan temple , then you are not that far. I would love to hear you saying "arupadaiveedu" temple and getting directions ;) .

Just tried it out on my wife. Total failure. I feel like a tourist!

Thanks for directions. I know the road, at least; the one with the police booth. I did get lost at that temple, once, after dropping a friend at her house. It was 2.am and I didn't want to ask for directions. My phone GPS saved me!

Looking forward to the concert, and hoping Mrs N will come too, as she likes HM better than CM. She's good at getting directions too :)

Still a little confused.

Is it really at "A" on this map ... Approached from Cauvery Road?

Or is it the further South road which has no name on Google Maps?

Nick, from memory, that seems to be the correct road but it is on the opposite side from the A marked. As varsha says above, there are signs to Ambalam as you approach.

Not sure if Cauvery Rd is the right name on the Google Map as the address says Yamuna St.

Thanks Vasanthakokilam . We plan to have a short interval for coffee-biscuits, too. Around the halfway mark.
