dInan dukh haran....

This one has some puranic references here...calling Ravi, Krishnaa, Rajani, Keerthi, others....in the meantime to give it a jumpstart, here's something I swept off the net, a humble attempt (not mine)......quite sure it needs editing. Please correct, add, modify....anything!

Surdas-ji says to Almighty -

The Lord who distracts the pain of the sufferers and is the well doer of the saints
Azamil, the vulture, the hunter, say who was perfect among them,

Who had given a higher destination to a bird and crossed the Ganika (a man who lives with a prostitute. -here Azamil ) across ...

Who had imposed canopy on Druva's head, and saved Prahalad
For the sake of devotee who constructed the bridge by going to Lanka puri .

When the alligator grabbed the Gajraj (the elephant) in his jaws ...who had come to save him ..

When Duhshashan had unwinded the clothes (of Draupadi) ,
Draupadi called up "Krihsna Krishna " in the Hall ..

Just then, (you) Hari reached there ..
Surdas , a blind begger, is standing at Your doorsteps -
When You can do so much and show your grace upon these people,
Please be kind towards me too.

we have heard a similar plea in another song ---where?

S-P the song that Saigal sings is a beauty:

madhukar shyAm hamArE cOr
man har lIno mAdhuri mUrat
nirakh nain kI kOr
shyAm hamAre chOr
madhukar shyAm hamAre chOr

The sweet (madhukar) krishNa (SyAm/SAm) is our (hamArE) thief (cOr)! With his intoxicating (mAdhuri) form (mUrat), and the glances (nirakh) from the corner/edge (kOr) of his (kI) eyes (nain), he has (lIno) stolen/won over (har) our hearts/minds (man) - that sweet SyAm is the one who has stolen our hearts.

sir pE jAkE mukaT suhAyE
mAtthE tilak nain kajrAre
mukh sundar jyUn bhOr
shyAm hamArE cOr
madhukar shyAm hamArE chOr

On (pE) whose (jAkE) head (sir) a crown (mukaT) of peacock feathers sits resplendently (suhAvE), a tilak on his forehead (mAtthE), collyrium (kajrArE) lining his eyes (nain), and a face (mukh) that looks as (jyUn) beautiful (sundar) as (jyUn) the breaking dawn (bhOr) - that sweet SyAm is the one who has stolen our hearts.

sUradAs kE cOr kanhaiyA
manamohan muralI kE bajaiyA
naTakhaT nandakishor cOr!
shyAm hamArE cOr
madhukar shyAm hamArE cOr

krishNa (kanhaiyA) is the stealer (cOr) of sUrdAs' heart, this attractive (manmOhan) flute (murli) player (bajaiyA), this mischievous (naTkhaT) son (kiSOre) of nanda! That sweet SyAm is the one who has stolen our hearts.

Yes, Ravi this one is especially beautiful, more so when Saigal gives a pause and says, chOr ! with such endearing emphasis.

The song also launched me into a flight of fancy mode, to interpret this just a little imaginatively -- that someone in Braja complained of the butter in the house gone missing -- when the reply came via the song...madhukar shyAm hamarE chOr!..the charming rascal who has stolen our hearts is our very own thief..just a thought.
